Ocarina of Time Biggoron's Sword: Full Trading Quest
How to get Biggoron's Sword in Ocarina of Time: every trade in order, the three timed runs and their routes, what you need first, and its damage.
Biggoron’s Sword is the strongest sword in Ocarina of Time, and you get it by carrying eleven trade items between characters as adult Link. The chain starts with the Cucco Lady in Kakariko Village and ends with Biggoron at the top of Death Mountain. Three of the deliveries are on a clock, and warp songs are not allowed during them.
What do you need before you start?
| Need | Why |
|---|---|
| Adult Link | The whole trade happens in the adult era |
| Epona or the Longshot | To cross the broken bridge in Gerudo Valley; Epona also makes the timed rides easy |
| A bottle of Blue Fire | King Zora is frozen in red ice and has to be thawed. Blue Fire is in the Ice Cavern |
| The Sun’s Song (optional) | Skips the waiting for the egg and for the finished sword |
| A Magic Bean planted outside Dodongo’s Cavern (optional) | The plant lifts you up Death Mountain Trail on the last timed run. See the Magic Beans guide |
What are the steps of the trading quest?
| # | You carry | Take it to | Where | You receive |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | — | Cucco Lady | Kakariko Village, by the Cucco pen | Pocket Egg |
| 2 | Pocket Egg | — | Wait until the next morning, or play the Sun’s Song | Pocket Cucco |
| 3 | Pocket Cucco | Talon, asleep in a house | Kakariko Village | A happy Pocket Cucco |
| 4 | Pocket Cucco | Cucco Lady | Kakariko Village | Cojiro, a blue Cucco |
| 5 | Cojiro | The man slumped against a stump | Lost Woods, first left from the entrance | Odd Mushroom (3:00) |
| 6 | Odd Mushroom | The old woman in the potion shop | Behind the Kakariko potion shop | Odd Potion |
| 7 | Odd Potion | A Kokiri girl, where the man was | Lost Woods, same spot | Poacher’s Saw |
| 8 | Poacher’s Saw | The carpenters’ boss by the tent | Gerudo Valley, across the bridge | Broken Goron’s Sword |
| 9 | Broken Goron’s Sword | Biggoron | Death Mountain summit | Prescription |
| 10 | Prescription | King Zora | Zora’s Domain | Eyeball Frog (3:00) |
| 11 | Eyeball Frog | The scientist | Lakeside Laboratory, Lake Hylia | World’s Finest Eye Drops (4:00) |

| 13 | Claim Check | Biggoron, three days later | Death Mountain summit | Biggoron’s Sword |
To use a trade item, stand in front of the character and press the button you assigned it to.
How do you get from the Pocket Egg to the Poacher’s Saw?
- Get the Pocket Egg. Talk to the Cucco Lady in Kakariko Village during the day.
- Hatch it. The egg hatches the next morning. Playing the Sun’s Song moves the clock along.
- Wake Talon. He is asleep in a house in Kakariko. Stand next to him and use the Pocket Cucco.
- Trade for Cojiro. Show the Cucco Lady the Pocket Cucco and she hands over her brother’s blue Cucco.
- Wake the man in the Lost Woods. Enter from Kokiri Forest and take the first left. Use Cojiro beside him and he gives you the Odd Mushroom. The three-minute timer starts.
- Run the mushroom to the potion shop. See the timed runs below. The old woman turns it into the Odd Potion. This leg back is not timed.
- Return to the Lost Woods. A Kokiri girl stands where the man was. Use the potion and she gives you the Poacher’s Saw.
How do you get from the saw to the Claim Check?
- Cross Gerudo Valley. Jump the broken bridge on Epona or Longshot across, then give the saw to the carpenters’ boss beside the tent. He gives you the Broken Goron’s Sword.
- Climb to Biggoron. He sits at the very top of Death Mountain Trail, past the climbing wall. He cannot work until his eyes are treated and gives you a Prescription.
- Thaw King Zora. Zora’s Domain is frozen. Pour Blue Fire from a bottle on the red ice around the king, then show him the Prescription. He gives you the Eyeball Frog and a three-minute timer.
- Ride to the Lakeside Laboratory. The scientist at Lake Hylia makes the World’s Finest Eye Drops, and a four-minute timer starts.
- Ride back to Biggoron. He uses the drops at once and gives you the Claim Check.
- Wait three days. Playing the Sun’s Song six times passes the time. Show Biggoron the Claim Check and the sword is yours.
How do you make the three timed runs?
Never play a warp song with a timer on screen; the item spoils immediately. If time runs out, go back to the character who gave you the item and trade again.
| Run | Time | Route |
|---|---|---|
| Odd Mushroom | 3:00 | Lost Woods to Kokiri Forest, out to Hyrule Field, call Epona, ride to Kakariko Village. Go through the potion shop near the Death Mountain gate, out its back door, and up the steps to the old woman’s shop |
| Eyeball Frog | 3:00 | Down the steps from King Zora, along Zora’s River to Hyrule Field, call Epona and ride south to Lake Hylia. The laboratory is the building by the shore |
| Eye Drops | 4:00 | Ride Epona from Lake Hylia to Kakariko Village, run up Death Mountain Trail, ride the bean plant by Dodongo’s Cavern if you planted one, clear the Skulltulas off the climbing wall with arrows or the Longshot, and climb to Biggoron |
Two things save the most time. Have Epona before you start, and plant the Magic Bean outside Dodongo’s Cavern as a child. If the potion shop’s front door is shut because it is night, play the Sun’s Song before you walk in.
How strong is Biggoron’s Sword compared with the Master Sword?
| Sword | Damage | Hands | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kokiri Sword | 1 | One | Child only |
| Master Sword | 2 | One | Leaves the shield free; the only sword that can finish Ganon |
| Giant’s Knife | 4 | Two | 200 Rupees from Medigoron in Goron City; the blade breaks after about eight hits and then hits like the Kokiri Sword |
| Biggoron’s Sword | 4 | Two | Never breaks; longer reach than the Master Sword |
Because it is two-handed, you cannot block with a shield while it is out. Switch back to the Master Sword for enemies you need to block, and keep the big sword for bosses and tough targets such as Dark Link and Ganon’s tail. The boss guide lists where it helps most.
