Ocarina of Time Remake: Zelda amiibo Support and Preview Changes
All existing Zelda series amiibo work in the Switch 2 remake. Catch up on item rewards, new masks and selected changes from the October hands-on preview.
The latest look at The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for Nintendo Switch 2 brings two useful updates: clearer amiibo support and concrete examples of how the remake changes familiar encounters. Nintendo released its overview trailer on October 14; a hands-on report published the same day catalogues 29 observations from more than an hour of play.
Which amiibo work, and what do they give you?
Nintendo confirms that all existing Legend of Zelda series amiibo provide helpful in-game extras. The trailer coverage identifies recovery hearts, Green Potions and a Deku Stick among the items shown. These examples are not a complete reward table, and the announcement does not establish which figure gives which item or how often each can be scanned.
The two new Young Link and Young Zelda figures have a separate advertised bonus: wearable masks with a retro visual style. Both figures are due in 2027, after the game; Nintendo says their exact release dates will be announced later. Existing figures are supported too, so the new pair is not the only way to use amiibo in the remake.
Do not assume that rewards from Breath of the Wild or Tears of the Kingdom carry over. Support for a figure does not establish an identical costume, weapon or companion reward in this game.
What stands out from the 29 preview observations?
Opening-area and Forest Temple spoilers follow. The report compares a limited preview session with the Nintendo 64 original. It is not an official patch list or a claim that the entire game contains only 29 changes. Here are a few examples that matter when revisiting an old route:
- The starting wallet holds 200 rupees, compared with 99 in the original.
- Reaching the Kokiri Sword now involves jumping to a raised chest, making the new jump control part of an early challenge.
- The Forest Temple gains a return-trip elevator after its block-and-ladder section.
- The green Poe block puzzle loses its timer, while the final Poe encounter has revised rounds.
- Din’s Fire no longer pauses the surrounding action during casting.
- The inventory shows five bottle slots. That observation does not reveal where an additional bottle comes from.
The preview also describes expanded conversations and clearer visual navigation cues. These findings give returning players a reason to re-examine familiar rooms; they do not establish the layout of every dungeon or the final collectible totals.
Can you fight defeated monsters again?
Nintendo’s October 14 announcement also introduces Hall of Fallen Heroes, where statues represent defeated monsters. You can visit to learn about them and engage in rematch battles. That confirms a rematch feature; it does not by itself confirm the exact rules of the 3DS Boss Challenge or the return of Master Quest.
The remake launches on November 5, 2026. See our release details, new-feature guide and N64 / 3DS / Switch 2 comparison for the wider picture. Older walkthroughs can help with background, but previewed puzzle changes mean their room-by-room solutions still need checking against the remake.
