Nintendo first showed the remake with a short teaser on June 9, 2026, and only promised “2026”. The full reveal came in the Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct on September 8, 2026, which set the date, opened pre-orders and introduced a themed Switch 2. Everything below comes from Nintendo’s own pages and eShop listings, checked on October 6, 2026, unless a line says otherwise.

When is the Ocarina of Time remake release date?

Thursday, November 5, 2026, on Nintendo Switch 2. Nintendo’s Japanese, Taiwanese and Southeast Asian news posts all give the same day, and there is no staggered regional launch. Nintendo describes the game as a full remake of the 1998 Nintendo 64 original with new visuals and easier handling, not a port or an emulated release.

How much does the Ocarina of Time remake cost?

Nintendo prices the download and the physical copy separately, and the boxed version costs more in every region that has published both. The table lists Nintendo’s own figures first. Where only retailers or press have a price, the row says so.

What editions and pre-order bonuses are there?

Nintendo has announced one standard edition in two formats: download and boxed. There is no collector’s or deluxe edition. Pre-order bonuses depend on the store:

  • US physical copies: the first print run has a textured foil cover while supplies last.
  • Nintendo Store Japan, boxed version: five A5 art cards, a paper stand and an original sticker sheet, in limited quantities.
  • Japan, download version: smartphone and PC wallpapers with 40th anniversary art for anyone who buys the download, or redeems a download code, by 23:59 on November 23, 2026. Nintendo sends them to your Nintendo Account from early November.
  • Other regions: individual retailers run their own offers, such as slipcovers or sleeves. Nintendo has not announced a worldwide bonus.

The Nintendo Store Japan boxed-version bonus: five A5 art cards and a 40th anniversary emblem piece.

Nintendo has not said in writing whether the boxed version is a regular game card or a game-key card.

The download is about 27 GB (Nintendo’s estimate), supports one player, and plays in TV, tabletop and handheld modes. It supports Save Data Cloud with Nintendo Switch Online, and works with the original Switch Pro Controller as well as the Switch 2 Pro Controller. It is rated ESRB Everyone 10+ (Animated Blood, Fantasy Violence) and PEGI 12.

When can you pre-load it, and what time does it unlock?

Nintendo has not posted a launch hour for this game. Its standard eShop rules apply, and they read the same on its American, European, Japanese, Hong Kong and Taiwan support pages:

  • eShop pre-orders: payment is taken no sooner than 7 days before release, which is October 29, 2026. Once it goes through, the full game downloads to your console. You can cancel a pre-order until that payment is taken.
  • Launch moment: the game’s icon sits on the HOME Menu, but it will not start until release, when a small update unlocks it. A console left in sleep mode with an internet connection downloads that update without you doing anything.
  • Download codes: Nintendo Store Hong Kong codes can be redeemed and downloaded from October 31, 2026. The Nintendo UK Store emails pre-ordered codes 7 days before release.
RegionWhen Nintendo’s rules say it unlocks
AmericasUsually 9:00 p.m. Pacific on November 4, which is midnight Eastern on November 5. That is Nintendo of America’s usual time for a game that is also sold on a game card.
EuropeMost games unlock at 00:00 on release day, November 5
Japan, Hong Kong, TaiwanPlayable from release day, November 5. Nintendo’s pages give no hour.

These are Nintendo’s general release times, and Nintendo notes that some games differ. Leave about 27 GB free. If you need more storage, Switch 2 only takes microSD Express cards.

Can you play it on the original Switch?

No. Every Nintendo listing names Nintendo Switch 2 as the only system, and the US store page says “Exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2”. Nintendo describes the game as built from the ground up for the console, and features such as humming songs into the built-in microphone rely on Switch 2 hardware. Nintendo has not announced a Nintendo Switch version or an upgrade pack.

On an original Switch, the way to play is the Nintendo 64 version in Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack. How to play Ocarina of Time now compares it with the remake. If you move to Switch 2 later, your Switch Pro Controller still works with this game.

What languages does it support?

Nintendo’s store pages list 13 languages: Japanese, English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Dutch, Russian, Korean, Polish, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese. The US listing counts regional variants separately (American and British English, European and Canadian French, European and Latin American Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese), which makes 16 entries.

That covers on-screen text. Cutscenes are fully voiced, but Nintendo has not said which languages have voice acting.

Is there a Switch 2 bundle with Ocarina of Time?

No bundle includes the game. On October 29, one week before launch, Nintendo releases Zelda 40th Anniversary hardware, but the US store page for the console says plainly that the game is not included.

All prices are from Nintendo’s own store pages or regional announcements. The Japanese console is the Japanese-language, Japan-only model: the system menu runs only in Japanese and links only to Japan-region Nintendo Accounts.

The console has a Triforce design on the dock and green and gold Joy-Con 2 controllers. Nintendo notes that pixel images of Link and Zelda are hidden in the design. For box contents, more regional prices and where to buy, see our Zelda 40th Anniversary Switch 2 console guide.

What else was announced alongside the remake?

  • Zelda Notes support. Zelda Notes does not need a Nintendo Switch Online membership. The Nintendo Switch App service adds four headline features for this game: Today’s Record (a timeline of what you did each day, with photos taken automatically while you play), Gossip Quest (find an in-game place from a hint image to earn points toward ocarina scores), Play Ocarina (play a virtual ocarina on your phone and share your own scores as QR codes), and the Ocarina of Time Quiz (over 2,000 questions, once a day, with extra tries paid for with in-game rupees). Our Zelda Notes guide explains how the service works with the other games.
  • Two amiibo. Young Link and Young Zelda unlock special in-game masks in a retro graphical style. Both release in 2027. Any existing Zelda series amiibo gives items that help on your adventure. Nintendo has not listed which figure gives what.
  • Ocarina accessories. HORI sells an “Electric Ocarina of Time” for $49.99 (7,980 yen) on November 5. It is not a wind instrument: you press buttons instead of blowing. Nintendo will also sell a playable ocarina through its own store “later this year”, but has not given a price or exact date.
  • Nintendo Music. The remake’s “Title Theme” is available now to Nintendo Switch Online members.
  • Location clips. Since the Direct, Nintendo’s official Zelda account has been posting short clips of places in the remake. The October 1 clip shows Gerudo’s Fortress.

What has not been announced yet?

These are open questions as of October 6, 2026. We will not guess at them:

  • Whether Master Quest, the Boss Challenge mode or other 3DS extras return
  • Frame rate and resolution targets
  • The voice cast, and which languages have voice acting
  • A version for the original Switch, or any upgrade path from the Nintendo Switch Online N64 release
  • The price and exact date of Nintendo’s own playable ocarina
  • Whether the boxed version is a regular game card or a game-key card
  • The exact unlock hour for this game
  • A demo

What rumors are going around?

  • A Majora’s Mask remake. In July 2026 several outlets noticed that a Japanese voice actor’s IMDb page listed a “Majora’s Mask HD” project. IMDb is user-edited, and Nintendo has said nothing about it.
  • The earlier “late 2026” leak. Before the June teaser, a well-known industry leaker said the remake was aimed at the 2026 holidays. The official November 5 date has now replaced that rumor.
