The Legend of Zelda Movie (2027): Release Date, Cast and Trailer Status

When is the Zelda movie release date?

April 30, 2027, worldwide. The date has moved twice: it was first set for March 26, 2027, then pushed to May 7, 2027, then pulled forward a week. The last change was announced by Shigeru Miyamoto on Nintendo’s official account on May 14, 2026.

Who is making it?

Nintendo announced the film on November 7, 2023: Shigeru Miyamoto and Avi Arad produce, Wes Ball directs, and Sony Pictures co-finances and distributes worldwide. Derek Connolly was the original screenwriter; Deadline reported in June 2025 that T. S. Nowlin took over. Production companies listed are Columbia Pictures, Nintendo, Arad Productions and Oddball Entertainment.

Has filming finished? Is there a trailer?

Filming began in November 2025 in Wellington, New Zealand, under the working title “Umami”, and wrapped in April 2026; cinematographer Gyula Pados shared a new look at Link when it did. Nintendo released three official stills of Link and Zelda on November 17, 2025.

There is no trailer yet. The 40th-anniversary Nintendo Direct on September 8, 2026 showed no footage. It did confirm the title — simply The Legend of Zelda, with no subtitle — and Shigeru Miyamoto described it as “an original film based on the many stories, ideas, and concepts of the series, built up through the games for 40 years” (Game Informer). No trailer date has been scheduled; with the release about seven months away, a teaser before the end of the year is the industry expectation, not an announcement.

What else is happening around the movie?

The film lands in the middle of the series’ 40th-anniversary year. The Ocarina of Time remake arrives on Switch 2 on November 5, 2026, the Secrets of the Zonai art book arrives in October 2026, and the Mineru’s Construct amiibo releases September 17, 2026.
