Nintendo announced a Zelda-themed Switch 2 in the Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct on September 8, 2026, alongside the release date for the Ocarina of Time remake. The console, a matching Pro Controller and a carrying case all release on October 29. The prices and details below come from Nintendo’s own store pages and announcements, checked on October 2, 2026.

When does the Zelda 40th Anniversary Switch 2 release?

Thursday, October 29, 2026. All three products launch that day:

  • Nintendo Switch 2 – The Legend of Zelda – 40th Anniversary Edition (the console)
  • Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller, The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition, sold with or without a display stand depending on the region
  • Nintendo Switch 2 Carrying Case & Screen Protector, The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition

That is one week before Ocarina of Time launches on November 5.

How much does the Zelda Switch 2 console cost?

Prices are as Nintendo lists them, in local currency. Where a store page says whether tax is included, the table says so too.

Sources by region: US Nintendo Store product pages; Nintendo Japan’s hardware page and Nintendo Store Japan; Nintendo Store Hong Kong; Nintendo Store UK and Ireland; Nintendo Australia’s September 8 announcement.

Nintendo Taiwan announced the same three products but has not published prices on its site, so Taiwan is left out of the table.

What comes in the box, and what does not?

Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition Switch 2 with green and gold Joy-Con 2 in the grip and a black and gold Triforce dock
The 40th Anniversary Edition console: green and gold Joy-Con 2 and the Triforce dock.

The console bundle contains:

  • Nintendo Switch 2 system in a special design, with 256 GB of storage
  • Joy-Con 2 (L) and (R) in green and gold
  • Two Joy-Con 2 straps (a special design in Japan and Hong Kong)
  • Nintendo Switch 2 dock, black and gold with a Triforce symbol on the front
  • Joy-Con 2 grip
  • Nintendo Switch 2 AC adapter and USB-C charging cable
  • Ultra High Speed HDMI cable

Patterns from the series also decorate the back of the system and the dock, and Nintendo says pixel images of Link and Zelda are hidden in the design.

What is not in the box: the game. Nintendo’s US page says “Game not included”, and the Japan and Hong Kong pages say the same thing about Ocarina of Time. None of the Nintendo announcements we checked mention a console-and-game bundle.

What are the matching Pro Controller and carrying case?

  • Pro Controller. A Switch 2 Pro Controller with Zelda patterns and illustrations. The display stand version adds a stand decorated with a map of Hyrule. Nintendo Hong Kong notes it is the first time a Switch 2 Pro Controller has come with a display stand. In Hong Kong the box also holds a USB charging cable.
  • Carrying case & screen protector. A Switch 2 case with Zelda patterns and illustrations, plus a screen protector. Nintendo’s Hong Kong and Taiwan announcements add that the inside of the case and the cleaning cloth also get the special design.

Open Zelda 40th Anniversary carrying case with a Switch 2 inside and a green cleaning cloth with pixel art
Inside the carrying case: the lining and the cleaning cloth carry pixel-art designs too.

Both are sold separately from the console.

Is the Japanese console different?

Yes. The Japanese edition is the “Japanese-language, Japan-only” model (日本語・国内専用). Nintendo Japan says the system supports Japanese only, and it links only to Nintendo Accounts with the country set to Japan. Nintendo Japan’s Ocarina of Time store page adds that games on this model play in Japanese, though some software lets you switch language in-game. If you live outside Japan, buy the version sold in your region.

Where can you buy the Zelda Switch 2?

Only what Nintendo has stated:

  • United States: Nintendo Store at nintendo.com. Each product page also has a “Find retailers” link. The Pro Controller with display stand is sold only at Nintendo Store, Nintendo NEW YORK and Nintendo SAN FRANCISCO.
  • Japan: Nintendo Store Japan lists the console at 62,980 yen.
  • Hong Kong: Nintendo Store Hong Kong limits each Nintendo Account to one console and one Pro Controller. Orders are delivered only to SF Express stations for pickup. Pre-orders placed by October 28 ship from October 29; later orders ship from November 2. The console cannot be ordered together with some accessories or games, so you need separate orders.
  • United Kingdom and Ireland: Nintendo Store, limited to one of each item per customer.
  • Australia: the console and the standard Pro Controller have suggested retail prices, so they are sold through retailers. The Pro Controller with display stand is sold only through Nintendo Store, and Nintendo says the carrying case is available at select retailers.

When we checked on October 2, the console showed as sold out or out of stock on the US, Japan, UK and Ireland Nintendo Stores. Stores may restock before launch, but Nintendo has not announced any restock dates.

How does it connect to the Ocarina of Time remake?

The hardware is part of the same 40th anniversary launch, but the console does not include the game. Ocarina of Time is a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive, launches on November 5, 2026, and costs $59.99 for the download or $69.99 boxed in the US. Our release date and price guide has the rest of the regions.

The remake supports both the Switch Pro Controller and the Switch 2 Pro Controller, so the anniversary controller works with it. On Switch 2 you can also hum or play ocarina songs into the console’s microphone; see every confirmed new feature for how that works.

If you already own a Switch 2, you do not need this console to play the remake. If you do not own one yet and want a Zelda game to start with, our guide to which Zelda to play first compares the options.

What has not been announced?

As of October 2, 2026:

  • A Taiwan price for any of the three products
  • Prices for the standard Pro Controller (without the stand) in Japan, Hong Kong, the UK and Ireland, if it is sold there at all
  • A price for the carrying case in Australia
  • Restock dates for regions where pre-orders sold out
