Ocarina of Time Gerudo Training Ground Walkthrough: All 9 Keys, Ice Arrows

Gerudo Training Ground guide: the 10-rupee entry, every timed room, all nine Small Keys including the hidden ceiling key, and the Ice Arrows at the centre.

The Gerudo Training Ground is an optional mini-dungeon behind a barred door in Gerudo’s Fortress. Each room tests something you learned in an earlier temple, every room pays out a Small Key, and the vault in the middle holds the Ice Arrows. Nothing in the main story needs them, so treat this as a late-game side trip; the walkthrough hub shows where it fits.

How do you clear the Gerudo Training Ground?

The loop runs left from the entrance and comes back through the right-hand door. One source says running it the other way needs the Scarecrow’s Song.

Entrance hall

  1. Pay the entry fee. Talk to the Gerudo in white by the barred door and pay 10 rupees. You pay again every time you leave, so bring the full toolkit.
  2. Shoot the eye above the entrance. Turn around and hit the golden eye with an arrow. Two chests appear: a Blue Rupee and a bundle of arrows. Playing the Song of Storms on the spot in the middle of the hall calls a fairy.
  3. Take the left door. The middle door is the locked maze, which you save for last. The right door is where the loop ends.

Stalfos room and Silver Rupee maze

  1. Defeat two Stalfos in one minute. Keep moving so the sand does not bog you down; the Biggoron’s Sword speeds this up. The chest holds Key 1.
  2. Collect five Silver Rupees in 1:30. Boulders roll through the side corridors, a Wallmaster drops in the middle and invisible flame walls block some paths. Duck into side alcoves as the boulders pass and ignore the Wallmaster.
  3. Hookshot the ceiling target for the last rupee. The target straight ahead pulls you through a rupee in mid-air. When the door opens, hookshot the target behind its flame wall to get through.

Wolfos room and Like Like room

  1. Defeat two Wolfos and two White Wolfos. A second Wolfos joins as you walk in, and the White Wolfos appear at the back. A chest with arrows appears afterwards.
  2. Find the alcove above the fake door. Look with the Lens of Truth, hookshot into the hidden alcove and step on the switch to unseal the doors below.
  3. Push the silver block. Use the Silver Gauntlets to push the large block into its hole, then take the door behind it.
  4. Clear the three Like Likes. More chests appear. The one on the pedestal is a freeze trap; the other two hold a Blue Rupee and a Gold Rupee.
  5. Lens the last sandy pit. An invisible chest there holds Key 2. Go back, hookshot up to the alcove again and take its door.

Eye statue room

  1. Call Pierre at the barred upper door. Before dropping down, stand by the barred door where Navi turns green and play the Scarecrow’s Song. Without it, fall into the lava to return to the entrance and walk back around.
  2. Shoot every eye on the statue. Ride the spinning platform and hit each eye once with an arrow. A chest appears by the statue; reach it with the Longshot or Hover Boots for Key 3.
  3. Take the upper door. The barred door is now open. Ride Pierre up and open the single chest inside for Key 4, then go back down and take the lower door.

Flame room

  1. Clear the Torch Slugs and Fire Keese. The next door opens and a chest with arrows appears.
  2. Smash the blocks with the Megaton Hammer. One block hides a golden eye; shooting it opens the door back to the statue room. Another hides a switch in the floor.
  3. Hit the switch and run for the centre chest. The fire around it drops for a few seconds. Grab Key 5 before it comes back.

Lava room

  1. Hookshot the first rupee. Step forward, turn around and fire at the target above the door to pull yourself through the first Silver Rupee.
  2. Play the Song of Time where Navi turns green. Two Time Blocks appear. Climb to the ledge above them, where Key 6 lies in the open. The passage beyond has a Bombchu chest and an arrow chest and leads into the locked maze from the far side, so leave it for now.
  3. Hit the side switch and finish the rupees. The switch drops the flames on the far platform for a short time. Hover Boots make the route easier, and the east door opens when all five rupees are yours.

Water room

  1. Clear the four Time Blocks. Play the Song of Time in front of them to open the pool.
  2. Sink with the Iron Boots. Wear the Zora Tunic, avoid the blade trap in the centre and hookshot the four Shell Blades.
  3. Collect five underwater Silver Rupees. Line up with the wall targets so the Hookshot carries you through the rupees, then take off the Iron Boots and float up to the last one on the ceiling. Surface and open the chest for Key 7.

Beamos and Dinolfos room

  1. Head south from the lava room. Go back through the lava room and take the door on the left.
  2. Destroy the Beamos, then the two Dinolfos. You have 1:30. A bomb takes the Beamos out; the Dinolfos attack together, and flame walls appear if you get close to the walls. The chest holds Key 8, and the next door returns you to the entrance.

Central locked maze

  1. Enter the middle door. You should now hold eight keys.
  2. Take the ninth key from the ceiling. Open the first locked door on the left, look up with the Lens of Truth and climb the grating to a hidden room. Its chest holds Key 9.
  3. Follow the left-hand doors to the centre. Chests along the way hold a Purple Rupee, a Red Rupee and arrows. The large chest at the end holds the Ice Arrows.

What do you get for finishing?

FAQ

What do I need for the Gerudo Training Ground?
The Gerudo Membership Card and 10 rupees per entry. To collect everything you need the Fairy Bow, Megaton Hammer, a Hookshot, the Lens of Truth, Iron Boots and Silver Gauntlets; the Longshot, Hover Boots and Zora Tunic make several rooms much easier.
Where is the ninth Small Key in the Gerudo Training Ground?
In the central locked maze. Go through the first locked door on the left, look up with the Lens of Truth, and climb the grating in the ceiling to a hidden room with the last key chest.
How many keys do I need to get the Ice Arrows?
Seven, if you enter the locked maze from the entrance hall and keep to the left-hand route. Entering from the high ledge in the lava room instead takes all nine keys.
Do I need the Scarecrow's Song in the Gerudo Training Ground?
No. It calls Pierre in the eye statue room, which saves a walk back to the upper door. One source notes it is needed if you run the loop to the right instead of the left.
