Almost every optional reward in Ocarina of Time sits behind a minigame or a short side quest. This page lists them all by era, with the location, the cost, what you need, and the prize, then sorts them by what they give so you can go straight to the Piece of Heart, bottle or bigger bag you are after.

How do the trickier games work?

Treasure Chest Shop. Each of the first five rooms has two chests, one with a key and one with a few Rupees. Pick the Rupees and the run ends. With the Lens of Truth you can see the contents and walk straight to the sixth room. The Lens comes from the Bottom of the Well.

Bombchu Bowling. You get ten Bombchus to hit three targets, each further away than the last, past a sliding blade and wandering Cuccos. The prize is shown after you pay and changes each game, so keep playing until the Piece of Heart and the Bomb Bag have both come up.

Fishing. Rent the rod, target a fish, cast, and reel in while pulling the stick the way the fish turns. Only one fish can be kept at a time; show the pond owner a new record to get the prize. The fish are bigger in the adult era.

The frogs. Stand on the log on Zora’s River and take out the ocarina. Zelda’s Lullaby, Epona’s Song, Saria’s Song, the Sun’s Song and the Song of Time each make one frog grow and pay a Purple Rupee. The Song of Storms gives a Piece of Heart. After the five songs the frogs start a game: play the note for whichever frog has a butterfly over it, and you get a second piece. The ocarina songs guide has every song.

Big Poes. Ride Epona across Hyrule Field with the Bow ready. A Big Poe appears and flees; shoot it, then catch the flame it leaves in an empty bottle. The collector in the old guardhouse by the Market drawbridge pays 50 Rupees and 100 points for each, and hands over a bottle at 1,000 points.

The Running Man. As a child he buys the Bunny Hood. As an adult he waits in the carpenters’ tent in Gerudo Valley and challenges you to a race to the Kokiri Forest bridge. He is said to finish one second ahead of you however fast you go, and no prize is known.

FAQ

Which minigames give Pieces of Heart?
Nine pieces come from games: Bombchu Bowling, the Treasure Chest Shop, child fishing, Dampé's digging tour, Dampé's second race, the Skull Kids' memory game, the frogs (two pieces) and Horseback Archery at 1,000 points.
Which side quests give capacity upgrades?
The two Shooting Galleries and the Lost Woods target give seed bags and a quiver, Horseback Archery gives the biggest quiver, Bombchu Bowling and the rolling Goron give bomb bags, the Forest Stage raises Deku Stick and Deku Nut limits, and the two scales come from the Zora diving game and adult fishing.
Which minigames are only available at night?
The Treasure Chest Shop in the Market opens only at night, and Dampé's digging tour runs in the evening, roughly 18:00 to 21:00. Most Market shops and both Shooting Galleries are daytime only.
What can you miss by becoming an adult?
Nothing for good. Child-only games stay available whenever you return to the child era through the Temple of Time.
How do you win the Treasure Chest Shop every time?
Use the Lens of Truth from the Bottom of the Well. It shows what is inside each chest, so you open only the ones with keys until the last room.
