Ocarina of Time Heart Pieces: All 36 Locations Checklist

Ocarina of Time hides 36 Pieces of Heart across Hyrule. Four pieces make one Heart Container, so the full set adds nine containers. Add your three starting hearts and the eight Heart Containers from dungeon bosses and you reach the maximum of 20. Each dungeon’s own page on the walkthrough hub covers its boss Heart Container.

How do you use this checklist?

The numbers are this site’s own and stay the same on every page that mentions a piece. The Needs column lists the age, items and songs; “child” or “adult” means only that age can collect it, and no age note means either works. Nothing on this list can be missed for good.

A few things unlock large groups at once:

• Magic Beans. Buy them from the salesman at the Zora’s River entrance as a child and plant them in the soft soil patches. The plants you ride as an adult lead to five pieces.
• The Hookshot and Longshot. The Hookshot comes from Dampé’s first race and the Longshot from the Water Temple. Together they cover most rooftop and ledge pieces.
• Your songs. The frogs on Zora’s River want most of the child songs, and several other pieces need Saria’s Song, the Sun’s Song or the Song of Storms.
• The Lens of Truth. It turns the Treasure Chest Shop from a gamble into a sure win.

Where are the Heart Pieces in Kakariko Village and the Graveyard? (8 pieces)

12	Kakariko	Child in daytime, or the owl	Get onto the ledge behind Impa’s house (climb up as a child in daytime, or ride the owl from Death Mountain Trail onto the rooftops), then crawl through the hole into the cow pen
18	Graveyard	Adult; Magic Bean or Longshot	Ride the bean plant planted as a child, or Longshot up, to the high ledge and roll into the crate
19	Kakariko windmill	Child with Boomerang, or adult	As a child, stand on the turning platform and pull the piece down with the Boomerang. As an adult, you come out here after Dampé’s race and can jump across
20	Graveyard	Adult	Beat Dampé’s race a second time in under 1:00 (the first win gives the Hookshot)
21	Kakariko	Hookshot	Hookshot onto the roof from the fence outside the windmill door and talk to the man sitting there. A trick jump also works as a child

Where are the Heart Pieces in Castle Town, Hyrule Field and Lon Lon Ranch? (6 pieces)

14	Hyrule Field	Bombs	Bomb the centre of the fenced square by the path to Lake Hylia, drop in and buy the piece from the Business Scrub for 10 Rupees
25	Hyrule Field	Bombs; Golden Scale or Iron Boots	In the northwest of the field, bomb by the lone tree south of the river. Dive or sink to the bottom of the grotto’s pool

Where are the Heart Pieces in Kokiri Forest and the Lost Woods? (2 pieces)
