Master Kohga, leader of the Yiga Clan, is back in Tears of the Kingdom. You fight him four times in the Depths, each time in a different abandoned mine and in a different Zonai machine. This page covers where each mine is, how each fight goes, and what you get. For his followers see the Yiga Clan.

Who is Master Kohga?

The Compendium calls him “The leader of the Yiga Clan, who worship the Demon King. His larger-than-life presence makes him popular and deeply respected. After the Upheaval, Kohga latched on to Zonai devices as a way to increase his power.”

The four fights make up the side adventure Master Kohga of the Yiga Clan.

FightMineHis machineHP
1Great Abandoned Central MineA four-wheeled vehicle600
2Abandoned Gerudo MineA flying machine900
3Abandoned Lanayru MineA boat1,200
4Abandoned Hebra MineA giant constructSaid to be about 2,200

The HP of the first three fights comes from his parameter file. Beam Emitters do only 20% damage to him, a hit to the head does double, and a lightning strike does just 120, so lightning does not finish him the way it finishes ordinary Yiga.

How does the first fight go?

You meet him at the end of the main quest A Mystery in the Depths, in the Great Abandoned Central Mine in the Depths of central Hyrule, right after you get Autobuild there.

He drives a four-wheeled vehicle and tries to run you over. Stay out of its path and shoot him: an arrow knocks him off, and while he is on the ground you can hit him freely. When he climbs back on, do it again. He then flees, and a line of statues leads west from the mine towards his next stop.

How do you beat him at the Abandoned Gerudo Mine?

Getting there: follow the statues west from the Great Abandoned Central Mine until you reach the mine below Gerudo Town.

Kohga is fiddling with a Zonai device. Examine it to start the fight.

His flying machine sprays fire straight down. Step aside, then shoot him.

He flies over you and sprays fire downward. Dodge it and shoot him out of the seat; then strike him on the ground. From half health a shield covers the front of the machine, so shoot from the side or from behind. He is also said to fire rockets in this phase.

Reward: a treasure chest with a Huge Crystallized Charge, and a Steward Construct gives you the Hovercraft Schema Stone.

How do you beat him at the Abandoned Lanayru Mine?

Getting there: go back to the surface. One chasm in the Lanayru Wetlands and one in the mountains south of the wetlands both have statues leading through the Depths to the mine, which lies below Zora’s Domain.

The third fight is on water. Take one of the rafts at the dock out to him.

Kohga sails a boat with Yiga archers on board. Take one of the rafts from the dock, close in, and shoot or jump aboard to hit him. In the second half a shield rises at the front of his boat and he lifts a big rock to throw at you. Use Recall on the rock and it flies back at him, which stuns him and gives you an opening.

Reward: a chest with a Huge Crystallized Charge, and the Bolt Boat Schema Stone from a Steward Construct.

How do you beat him at the Abandoned Hebra Mine?

Getting there: a chasm leads straight to it. Drop into the Rito Village Chasm and you land at the mine; activate Sikatag Lightroot nearby first.

The “ultimate weapon”: a giant construct, with Kohga riding on top.

Kohga has revived his ultimate weapon, a giant construct, and the boss bar now calls him “Wielder of Ultimate Yiga Power”. The construct is slow. Stay out of its swings and shoot Kohga: he falls out, and you can hit him on the ground.

In the second half he puts up a barrier and throws bombs; they can be dodged, and are said to fly back at him with Recall. Electric attacks are said to stop the construct for a moment, and slamming it into the electric fence around the arena is said to break his barrier.

Knocked out of the construct: hit him while he is down.

Reward: two chests, with a Huge Crystallized Charge and a Diamond. The Rocket Platform Schema Stone is also at this mine.

When it is over, Kohga blasts himself into the sky, and you learn that the Demon King is deep beneath Hyrule Castle.
