How do you start The Mayoral Election, and what is the quest order?

In The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, the Hateno election storyline begins at Ventest Clothing, near the village entrance. Speak with Sophie outside, enter the shop and talk to Cece. Watch her argument with Reede, then speak to Cece again, choose “A Cece voter.” and agree to help with Team Cece or Team Reede?

That argument begins the storyline; the final quest, The Mayoral Election, advances once the candidates are ready. The table gives a convenient route. You can interleave deliveries and investigations, but the necessary sequence is letter retrieval and cheese collection before the cheese handover, then all prerequisite reports before the election.

QuestWho and whereCompletion and dependency
Team Cece or Team Reede?Cece inside Ventest ClothingDeliver Hylian Shrooms to the specified villagers, then report to Cece
A New Signature FoodReede at his house on the village hillsideAccept his request, then return with Hateno Cheese
A Letter to KoyinKoyin beside the pond at Hateno PastureRetrieve the bottle, then collect cheese inside the farmhouse; this supplies the previous quest
Reede’s SecretClavia near the mayor’s house; she also visits Zelda’s house by dayEnter the shed during the day, read the diary and report to Clavia
Cece’s SecretSophie outside Ventest Clothing during the dayFollow Cece at night, witness her secret in the silo and report to Sophie
The Mayoral ElectionSophie outside the shop after the prerequisitesHold the election on a clear day, then return to Cece for the hat

These are Side Adventures. Before the ceremony, check that the mushroom quest, both secrets and A New Signature Food are completed, including their final conversations.

Who receives the eight Hylian Shrooms?

Cece supplies eight Hylian Shrooms: one for each of eight villagers. Talk to each person and choose the mushroom handover option; dropping mushrooms on the ground does not deliver them. This route works from the village entrance toward the pasture and lab. Locations describe daytime activity areas, so expect people to move around.

RecipientWhere to lookHow to recognize them
TamanaHouses behind the clothing shop, near the village entranceTends Cuccos and sweeps during the day
MeddaTomato field behind the clothing shopFarmer tending Hylian Tomatoes
UmaField below the school, near Hateno Village West WellOlder woman working in the field by day
LeopMain road between the entrance and clothing shopOlder man carrying a vegetable; also check the inn at night
WortenVillage inn, at the counter or on the outside deckMan moving between the inn’s indoor and outdoor areas
DantzCowshed at Hateno PastureFarmer tending the cows
KoyinSmall dock beside the pasture pond; check inside the farmhouse after the letter questVillager involved with the message bottle and cheese
TokkSlope between Hateno Pasture and Hateno Ancient Tech Lab, or near the labOlder man who walks toward the lab in the morning
Dantz beside the Hateno Pasture cowshed, with the pond visible behind him
Find Dantz by the cowshed, then look toward the pond for Koyin. Combine these deliveries with the letter quest.

Report to Cece after the last delivery. Your Adventure Log tracks how many recipients remain, and Cece offers clues about those you have missed. Travelers, children, the candidates’ families and temporary Sheikah residents are excluded. If you eat or cook the mushrooms, gather or buy replacement Hylian Shrooms yourself; Cece will not supply another batch.

What does Reede want for A New Signature Food, and where is the cheese?

Reede wants Hateno Cheese. Accept his request at home, then head uphill to Hateno Pasture. If you have already completed A Letter to Koyin, you can bring the cheese straight back.

  1. Speak with Koyin beside the pasture pond to start A Letter to Koyin. The target is the message bottle floating in the water.
  2. Build a platform or raft from nearby wood, get within reach and use Ultrahand to retrieve the bottle. Bring it to Koyin on shore; swimming to it does not let you swim back carrying it.
  3. Talk to Koyin again so she reads the letter. Follow up inside the farmhouse to receive Hateno Cheese. Retrieving the bottle alone leaves the reward step unfinished.
  4. Keep the cheese in your inventory, return to Reede at home and choose to give him some. This completes A New Signature Food and earns a Silver Rupee, worth 100 rupees.

Bring Hateno Cheese to Reede and hand it over through dialogue. Finishing Koyin’s quest does not also complete his.

After the letter quest, Koyin trades cheese for Fresh Milk; if you used your reward, you can also buy more at the farmhouse. Completing A New Signature Food adds cheese to the village general store and traveling merchants. These cheese outlets unlock at this stage, before the election.

When should you follow Cece, and how do you enter the silo?

Accept Cece’s Secret from Sophie outside the shop during the day, then wait outside at night, from around 10 p.m., for Cece to leave. Resting until night does not necessarily put you at her departure time. Treat 10 p.m. as a time to watch for her, not a one-minute deadline.

  1. Crouch, keep your distance and use mushroom decorations, the noticeboard and corners as cover. Cece watches her surroundings; avoid her line of sight and do not stop her to talk.
  2. Follow her to the silo near the opposite side of the street. Let her enter and close the door.
  3. Climb the exterior to the upper opening, enter at the wooden platform and observe from above. You need the scene of Cece eating vegetables; reaching the locked door is insufficient.
  4. After witnessing the scene, find Sophie outside during the day and report back for 10 Ironshrooms.

Use the noticeboard as cover and let Cece get ahead. Once she enters the silo, observe through the upper opening.

If she spots you, she cuts the outing short and returns home. Wait outside the shop for another nighttime outing and try again while staying out of sight; you do not need a replacement quest.

How do you enter the locked shed for Reede’s Secret?

Clavia wants you to investigate the locked shed beside Reede’s house. He uses it at night, so go during the day; resting until noon is convenient. The route goes underground, then up through the floor to his diary.

  1. Locate the shed in daylight and mark it on your map.
  2. Descend Hateno Village West Well, near the school’s field, and follow the underground passage southeast toward the shed. See the well list for its surface location.
  3. Near the breakable rock wall, check your minimap and position yourself directly beneath the shed. Use Ascend. If the exit preview is outside the building, cancel, reposition and try again.
  4. Read the diary on the table to learn about Reede’s work on vegetables inspired by Cece’s style. Open the door from inside, leave and report to Clavia for 10 Hylian Tomatoes.

Read the diary, then report to Clavia. Entering the shed alone does not finish the investigation.

How does the election end, and what are the rewards?

After reporting back for every prerequisite, meet Sophie outside Ventest Clothing. Rain or nighttime postpones the ceremony. Return during daylight in clear weather and speak to her again to begin.

The outcome is fixed: Cece withdraws and Reede stays mayor. They agree to work together for the village. There is no voting branch that lets Link elect a different mayor.

After the scene, enter the shop and speak with Cece to receive the Cece Hat. Leaving immediately after the gathering skips the final reward conversation.

What unlocks after the election?

  • Clothing sales and Cece’s collection: the shop reopens, and Cece can sell replacements for certain valuable clothing you have previously obtained. Availability depends on your equipment discoveries.
  • Hylian Hood styling: speak to Cece while wearing the Hylian Hood to have it lowered or raised.
  • Hylian Shield replacement: after obtaining the shield and subsequently losing or breaking it, you can buy a replacement from Cece for 3,000 rupees. The election does not award the original shield; see the Hylian Shield guide for that location.
  • Homegrown in Hateno: speak to Reede by the fields near the village entrance for this follow-up Side Quest. Protect him and the field until daybreak to receive five Sun Pumpkins and unlock their sale. This is separate from A New Signature Food, the earlier cheese quest.

FAQ

Where do you start The Mayoral Election?
The storyline starts inside Ventest Clothing in Hateno Village. Complete Team Cece or Team Reede?, Cece’s Secret, Reede’s Secret and A New Signature Food, then speak with Sophie outside the shop to advance the election. The ceremony requires clear daytime weather.
Who gets the mushrooms, and how many do you need?
Give one Hylian Shroom each to Tamana, Medda, Uma, Leop, Worten, Dantz, Koyin and Tokk: eight mushrooms in total. Return to Cece after all deliveries to finish the quest.
Does supporting Cece change who wins the election?
The outcome is fixed: Cece withdraws, Reede remains mayor, and they agree to work together. Helping Cece with mushrooms still leaves Reede’s quests to complete before you can finish the storyline and receive the hat.
Is Homegrown in Hateno required before the election?
No. A New Signature Food, which involves giving Reede Hateno Cheese, is required beforehand. Homegrown in Hateno is the field-defense quest available afterward; completing it unlocks Sun Pumpkins.
