The Depths in Tears of the Kingdom offer a renewable supply of intact melee weapons. This page covers where to collect them, how to unlock them and when their locations refresh. For equipment you already own, use the durability and repair guide. Find a good base weapon here, then repair it before it breaks.

What are pristine weapons, and how do you recognize them?

Pristine weapons are the undecayed, intact versions listed separately on the full weapon list. They have an undamaged appearance and a sparkle beside their name, with higher base attack and durability than the corresponding decayed version. The underlying weapon name and its special trait still match the same model.

Pristine does not mean unbreakable, or simply any weapon with an attack bonus. It still has durability and will break when that runs out. Rock Octoroks repair durability; they do not convert a decayed surface weapon into its pristine counterpart.

Where in the Depths do you collect them?

Look for low stone mounds and platforms with dark, soldier-shaped figures holding weapons. These are commonly called shadow soldiers. You do not need to defeat them. Approach the offered weapon, take it when the pickup prompt appears, and the figure disappears. Some platforms have several figures, so check each offering.

Walk up and take the offered weapon. The sparkle beside its name identifies the intact version.

On your first trip, use the chasm locations and descent guide to find an entrance, then activate a nearby Lightroot as a travel and lighting base. The Depths layer of the interactive map shows Lightroots and terrain. Mark weapon figures separately on your in-game map, noting the category each one holds.

Which weapon types can appear, and in which regions?

These figures offer one-handed weapons, two-handed weapons and spears, rather than bows or shields. Each figure has a fixed category: a spear location keeps offering spears, not claymores. Individual locations also have different pools of possible models within that category.

The weapon data contains 31 melee weapons with both decayed and intact versions. The table groups them by where to look. These are broad Depths regions corresponding to the surface, not a promise that every mound in an area can offer every listed weapon.

Weapons to look forWhere to start searching in the Depths
Traveler’s Sword, Traveler’s Claymore, Traveler’s SpearDefault offerings that can appear during your first explorations
Soldier, Knight, Royal and Royal Guard sword, claymore and spear familiesMultiple regions with different pools at individual locations; do not expect every mound to offer the rarer families
Zora Sword, Zora Longsword, Zora SpearBeneath Lanayru
Gerudo Scimitar, Gerudo Claymore, Gerudo SpearBeneath the Gerudo Desert
Feathered Edge, Feathered SpearBeneath Hebra

Forest Dweller’s Sword, Forest Dweller’s SpearBeneath the Great Hyrule Forest
Eightfold Blade, Eightfold LongbladeBeneath Necluda
Boomerang, Giant Boomerang, Throwing SpearCompatible one-handed, two-handed or spear pools; they are not available at every location

Compare intact versions on the full weapon list and use the best weapons comparison to choose your main equipment. A regional match alone does not guarantee a particular rare weapon.

How does the requirement to break a weapon first work?

Traveler weapons are the default; unlock other models before hunting for them. Work through these steps:

  1. Obtain the target’s decayed version. For a pristine Zora Spear, start with a decayed Zora Spear. Breaking a Zora Sword does not unlock the spear.
  2. Use that weapon as your equipped base until it breaks in combat. Picking it up, photographing it or dropping it is not enough. Using it without an attachment makes the break easier to verify; an attachment breaking off is not the same as the base weapon shattering.
  3. Search matching figures in the appropriate region. Unlocking adds the model to compatible pools. It does not replace every offering or guarantee the next weapon you see.
  4. Clear old offerings and plan a return trip. Previously visited mounds may still hold weapons generated before you unlocked your target.

Advice to “break it on the surface first” is easiest to follow by using up the matching decayed base weapon, usually obtained on the surface, in combat before searching the Depths. Repeatedly breaking the same model does not unlock it again.

How do Blood Moon respawns work?

Remove the offering first, then wait for a Blood Moon. An unwanted weapon left in a figure’s hands will not automatically upgrade. If your inventory is full, free a slot, take the unwanted weapon and discard it if necessary. Confirm that the figure disappears.

On your next visit after a Blood Moon, the location can offer another weapon, but a fresh roll can select the same model again. If you keep finding Traveler weapons, check whether you broke the target’s decayed version, whether the region and category are suitable, and whether you actually removed the old offering. Story progress or waiting through extra Blood Moons does not replace those conditions.

To reroll the weapon model using a save, save before the offering has generated. A save made after approaching and seeing the specific weapon usually cannot change its model. For ordinary exploration, clearing unwanted offerings, marking them and returning after a Blood Moon is easier to manage.

What should you prepare before collecting weapons?

Prepare lighting and a way back before descending. Carry Brightbloom Seeds, avoid gloom and approach each mound with a clear view of your footing.

Descending through a chasm is the start. Find a Lightroot before exploring the surrounding weapon mounds.
  • Keep slots and map marks organized by category. Record one-handed, two-handed and spear locations separately so you can revisit the ones you need.
  • Inspect an offering before replacing your main weapon. Decayed and pristine versions have similar names; avoid dropping a repaired favorite just to make room.
  • Choose an attachment after collecting the base. Pristine weapons work well as Fuse bases, but fusing does not make them unbreakable.
  • Separate maintenance from resupply. Use the Rock Octorok repair route for favorites that are nearly broken, and the Depths when you need additional weapons.

FAQ

Do pristine weapons ever break?
Yes. They are intact versions, usually more durable than their decayed counterparts, but still break. Rock Octoroks can repair many weapons without turning decayed weapons into pristine ones.
Must I break a weapon before its pristine version appears?
Traveler weapons are the default. For other models, use the corresponding decayed base weapon until it breaks, then search a compatible regional pool and weapon category. Picking it up, photographing it or dropping it is not the same as breaking it.
Why is the same weapon still there after a Blood Moon?
Remove the old weapon so the figure disappears, then wait for a Blood Moon. Leaving an unwanted offering in place does not upgrade it. A fresh roll can also produce the same model again.
Do shadow soldiers offer bows or shields?
These locations offer one-handed weapons, two-handed weapons or spears, with a fixed category for each figure. Repeated respawns cannot turn a spear location into a bow or shield source.
