TotK Octoroks: All 5 Types, HP, Drops and Locations
Every Octorok in Tears of the Kingdom: Water, Forest, Rock, Snow and Treasure. HP, drop rates, why any hit kills them, weapon repair and a map of all 190 spawns.
The game calls Octoroks “octopus-like” low-ranking monsters, and Tears of the Kingdom has five of them, each suited to its own terrain. This page shows what each one looks like and how it attacks, gives their HP, damage settings and drops from the game’s own data, explains how Rock Octoroks repair weapons, and maps all 190 places the game puts them. For the other monster families see the enemy overview; the Breath of the Wild Octoroks have their own page.
Which Octoroks are in Tears of the Kingdom?
| Octorok | HP | Habitat | How it hides and attacks |
|---|---|---|---|
| Water Octorok | 8 | Rivers, lakes and the sea | Lurks in the water, bursts out when someone comes near, spits rocks |
| Forest Octorok | 8 | Woods and grassland | Poses as grass or a shrub, ducks into the ground when you get close |
| Rock Octorok | 8 | Volcanic areas | Inhales hard, then spits flaming rocks |
| Snow Octorok | 8 | Snowfields | Poses as a clump of snowfield grass, spits snowballs |
| Treasure Octorok | 8 | Deep sand and snow | Buries itself with a treasure chest showing |
The HP is from the game’s parameter files and the rest from its Hyrule Compendium entries. There is no Sky Octorok in Tears of the Kingdom: that kind belonged to Breath of the Wild’s Master Mode.
What is a Water Octorok like?
The Water Octorok is the base kind. The game says it spends most of its time in water and bursts out when it senses someone, then spits rocks, which “can be bounced back with a shield”. The game places 55: 44 along rivers and coasts on the surface, 7 in caves and wells, and 4 in the Depths, three of them below Zora’s Domain.
What is a Forest Octorok like?
The game describes it as originally an aquatic species that “adapted to life in the forest”, hiding among trees disguised “as grass or unassuming shrubbery”. With 63 spawns it is the most common Octorok; Rok Woods alone holds 14 and Thundra Plateau 11.
What is a Rock Octorok like?
Rock Octoroks live in volcanic regions. The game warns that when they inhale “they’re preparing to spit out flaming rocks” and tells you to “be aware of that powerful suction”. That suction is what repairs weapons, as explained below. 34 of the 35 the game places are in Eldin.
What is a Snow Octorok like?
The game says Snow Octoroks live in snowy fields and “disguise themselves as grass”, then “attack by spitting snowballs”. There are only 10: seven in Gerudo, four of them on Vatorsa Snowfield, and three in Tabantha.
What is a Treasure Octorok like?
The game calls Treasure Octoroks “particularly clever”: they bury themselves in deep sand or snow, show only a treasure chest and attack whoever walks up to it. It adds that the chests “are actually parts of these monsters’ bodies”. A lone chest poking out of open sand or snow may well be one. 12 of the 27 are in Gerudo, three of them at Gerudo Summit.
How do you beat Octoroks?
The damage files make every Octorok fragile:
| Setting | Value | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| HP | 8 | — |
| Damage multiplier | ×10 for weapons, arrows, bombs, body blows and shockwaves | A 1-damage hit deals 10, so any hit kills |
| Head | ×2 | Not needed, but it stacks |
| Catching fire, electric shock, lightning | 999,999 | Fire, shock or lightning kills at once |
| Being frozen | 10 (Water, Rock), 999,999 (Forest, Snow, Treasure) | Freezing kills any type, since even 10 is above 8 HP |
- Shoot from range. Octoroks attack by spitting from a distance, so an arrow is the safest answer, and any arrow kills.
- Send the rocks back. The game’s own tip for the Water Octorok: hold up your shield and the rock it spits bounces back at it.
- Use the water. Because electric shock is fatal, a Shock Fruit, or a Yellow Chuchu Jelly thrown into the water next to a Water Octorok, finishes it.
What do Octoroks drop?
| Octorok | Drops |
|---|---|
| Water, Forest, Rock, Snow Octorok | Octorok Eyeball 20% (up to 2 rolls); one of Octorok Tentacle 25%, Octo Balloon 75% (1–2 rolls) |
| Treasure Octorok | one of Green Rupee 40%, Blue Rupee 20%, Red Rupee 5%, Purple Rupee 1%, Silver Rupee 0.5% (3–5 rolls); Octorok Eyeball 20% (up to 2 rolls); Octo Balloon (up to 2 rolls) |
Rates are from the game’s drop tables. “One of” means the items share one roll; a percentage is the chance per roll. The four regular types share the same table, so farm whichever kind is closest.
- Octo Balloon: the game calls it an “inflatable Octorok organ” with “a lot of lift”. Attach it to something and it floats up; fused to an arrow, it sticks to whatever the arrow hits. It adds 1 attack when fused to a weapon.
- Octorok Eyeball: its nature is “to focus on a moving object”, so an arrow with one fused homes in on its target. It adds 3 attack when fused to a weapon.
- Octorok Tentacle: “too acidic for cooking” but valued for elixirs. It adds 3 attack when fused. See the Fuse guide.
- Armor upgrades: each piece of the Yiga set needs 2 Octorok Eyeballs for its first star, and the Snow Boots need 5 Octorok Tentacles at the second star and 5 Octo Balloons at the third. All costs are in the upgrade materials table.
How do Rock Octoroks repair weapons?
Drop a badly damaged weapon in front of a Rock Octorok, then back away. When it inhales it sucks the weapon in and spits it back with its durability fully restored and a random bonus such as Attack Up or Durability Up. Each Rock Octorok can successfully repair one item per Blood Moon cycle. Defeat it after collecting your equipment and return after the next Blood Moon respawns it. The weapon durability page covers the details, including how to use the trick on legendary weapons.
