TotK Bokoblins: Every Rank, HP, Drops and Boss Bokoblins

The game calls the Bokoblin a “common species” and “a nuisance all over Hyrule”, and it comes in nine kinds counting Stalkoblins and Boss Bokoblins. How do you tell the Bokoblin ranks apart?

The HP comes from the game’s parameter files. The horn shapes are from the game’s own item descriptions, the silver patterns from its Hyrule Compendium entry, and the Boss Bokoblin colors from the screenshots below.

Which color you meet depends on how far you are. Enemies are replaced by stronger variants as you beat more of them, so a spot that held red Bokoblins early on can hold blue or black ones later.

What is a red Bokoblin like?

The weakest rank, with 25 HP. The game describes Bokoblins as “not very clever” but smart enough to hunt beasts and grill the meat, and says they are “sometimes seen marching in groups”. They fight with whatever weapon they carry and, in the game’s words, their sharp horns. Bokoblins of every color often carry weapons fused with crude materials such as rocks.

What is a Blue Bokoblin like?

A Blue Bokoblin has 72 HP, almost three times a red one. The game says it is tougher than the red kind and its horns are sharper. From this rank up, a Bokoblin can drop Bokoblin Guts.

What is a Black Bokoblin like?

With 240 HP the Black Bokoblin is almost ten times as tough as a red one. The game calls it “extremely resilient and powerful”, above all when it attacks with its hefty horns, and it often charges at Link horns first. Freeze black ones with an Ice Fruit so a mixed group cannot gang up on you.

What is a Silver Bokoblin like?

The strongest regular Bokoblin, with 720 HP. The game says the Demon King’s power “marked their silver bodies with purple patterns” and warns that the glow at the tip of the horn may look funny but should not be taken lightly. Shock Fruit works well: the shock stuns a Silver Bokoblin and makes it drop its weapon. Every Silver Bokoblin drops Bokoblin Guts.

What are Stalkoblins?

Stalkoblins are the remains of Bokoblins. The game says they “hate light and only move about in the dark”, crumble from a single blow, and keep pulling themselves back together as long as the skull is intact. With 2 HP, one hit breaks the body; the skull is what counts, so hit it after the body falls apart. A Dazzlefruit defeats Stal monsters instantly.

How strong are Boss Bokoblins?

Boss Bokoblins lead the others. The game describes them “whistling commands to the teams of minions nervously trailing them”, with horns sharp enough to “slice large trees clean in half”. The blue kind hits harder with its fists and weapons, the black kind fights in coordinated attacks with its minions, and the silver one is “the mightiest of all Boss Bokoblins”, guarded by elite minions.

A Boss Bokoblin throws rocks, barrels and even its own Bokoblins at you. Recall sends a thrown object straight back.

Where do Boss Bokoblins spawn?

These are the game’s placement data. Each spawn is listed with the color it is placed as; after the rank changes described above, the same spot may hold a stronger color in your game. The only spawn placed as a Silver Boss Bokoblin is in the Depths below Meadela’s Mantle, and the Hyrule Castle one is a Black Boss Bokoblin at the Second Gatehouse.

Most of the Depths has no place names of its own, so the name given for a Depths spot is the name of the place on the surface directly above it. Find that name on the surface map and the spot is straight below.

What does a Bokoblin camp look like?

Bokoblins gather at camps with other monsters. There are bigger setups as well: heavily fortified camps, and patrols led by a Boss Bokoblin. The game announces these with a Monster Forces banner at the top of the screen. The pirate ships in the Akkala Sea, the fort on Ja’Abu Ridge and Lurelin Village in the screenshots on this page are all Monster Forces.

How do you beat Bokoblins fast?

• Aim for the head. The damage files give every Bokoblin a head hitbox with double damage; on Boss Bokoblins it sits on the forehead.
• Sneak up in smoke. A Puffshroom blinds them; crouch up behind one inside the cloud for a sneakstrike.

• Use fire and the camp against them. Every Bokoblin rank has burn damage settings in the damage files, and a grass fire reaches a whole pack at once. Camps often keep red explosive barrels, as at Hyrule Field Skyview Tower.

• Freeze, shock or confuse. Use Ice Fruit to freeze black and silver ones one at a time, Shock Fruit to make them drop their weapons, and a Muddle Bud on a Boss Bokoblin so it attacks its own minions.
• Knock them into deep water. Bokoblins drown in deep water, which ends the fight at once.

The damage files also set lightning damage to 999,999 for every Bokoblin rank.

What do Bokoblins drop and what are the parts for?

Rates are from the game’s drop tables. “Rolls” is how often the game rolls that line, and “one of” means the items share one roll. Weapons a Bokoblin carries are not part of these tables.

• Fuse: a horn fused to a weapon adds its attack power. The Bokoblin Horn adds 4, the Silver Bokoblin Horn 31, the Black Boss Bokoblin Horn 27 and the Silver Boss Bokoblin Horn 37. Fangs count double on arrows. See the Fuse guide.
• Elixirs: every horn, fang and gut can be cooked with a critter into an elixir, as each item description says. The critter sets the effect; see best recipes.
• Armor upgrades: the Hylian set needs Bokoblin parts at every star, up to Silver Bokoblin Horns at four stars; the Soldier’s and Radiant sets need Bokoblin Guts at the first star; the Royal Guard set needs Boss Bokoblin parts from the first star and three Silver Boss Bokoblin Horns per piece at four stars. • Bokoblin Mask: not a drop, but the first reward Koltin gives for a Bubbul Gem. The game says it helps you “blend in with Bokoblins”; see Bubbul Gems.
