Rupees in Tears of the Kingdom come from selling things, and a few things sell for far more than the rest. This page goes through the steady ways to earn them in the order the game opens them up: what you need first, what to do, and what one run pays. Every price is the game’s own sell price.

How do you earn rupees in the early game?

Mine ore deposits and sell the gems

Caves are where most ore deposits are; a traveler in the game points you to one and says the gems and Luminous Stones inside sell well. Break a deposit with a hammer-type weapon: fusing a rock or boulder to any weapon makes one. The gems sell to any shop at the prices above, or keep the valuable ones for Ramella in Goron City (below), who pays more. Every cave is listed on the cave page.

Cook Meat Skewers from Honeyvore Bear meat

A dish sells for more than its ingredients: the game adds up their sell prices and multiplies by up to 1.8 for a full pot of five. Five Raw Gourmet Meat make a Meat Skewer that sells for 315; five Raw Prime Meat make one for 135. The formula and more dishes are on the recipes to sell page.

The steadiest meat source is a Honeyvore Bear with a Bokoblin rider east of the Thyphlo Ruins Skyview Tower, at about 739, 3062. You need the Bokoblin Mask, the first reward Koltin gives for a Bubbul Gem (see Bubbul Gems).

  1. Wear the Bokoblin Mask and travel to Sikukuu Shrine. The rider then comes at you without attacking. Dismiss the sages by selecting their vows in Key Items, so they stay out of it.
  2. Save, then shoot only the bear. Leave the Bokoblin alone.
  3. Pick up the meat quickly, save and reload. The Bokoblin may eat what it reaches first. After the reload the bear is back; repeat steps 2 and 3.

By the game’s drop table, a Honeyvore Bear drops two or three items, each Raw Prime Meat (60%), Raw Gourmet Meat (30%) or Courser Bee Honey (10%).

Photograph the 13 stone tablets

The side adventure Messages from an Ancient Era starts with the tablet that falls into Lookout Landing. There are 13 tablets in all; photograph the other 12 and show each picture to Wortsworth in Kakariko Village. Each one pays a Silver Rupee (100), 1,200 in all, and finishing the set adds the Zonai Survey Team Fabric. It only pays once, but it is money you get while exploring anyway.

How do you earn more in the mid game?

Sell gems to Ramella in Goron City

Ramella, a Gerudo jeweler in Goron City, pays more than any shop for gems, but only ten at a time and only the kind she asks for. Her first request, the side quest Amber Dealer, is ten Amber for 200 rupees. After that she names one gem at a time:

GemShop price for 10Ramella for 10Gain
Amber (Amber Dealer, once)100200+100
Topaz8001,000+200
Ruby1,1001,300+200
Sapphire1,5001,700+200
Diamond5,0005,500+500
Ramella offering 1,700 rupees for ten sapphires
Ramella asks for sapphires: 1,700 rupees for ten.

Save Diamonds for her: ten of them earn 500 more than at a shop, while the other gems gain 200 per ten.

Hunt Rare Taluses after each Blood Moon

A Stone Talus (Rare) is the best gem source in the game. There are 14 of them. Each one drops its heart, up to two gems from a roll of Diamond 50%, Topaz 20%, Ruby 15% or Sapphire 15%, and 6–10 more ore drops that can also be gems. Defeated monsters come back with the Blood Moon, so you can make a round of them every time one rises. Their spawn points and the climb-and-hit fight are on the Stone Talus page.

Pick up Star Fragments

A Star Fragment falls from the sky at night and sells for 200. Watch for the streak of light and follow the beam where it lands. It is also an armor upgrade material, so keep the ones you need first.

What earns the most in the late game?

Farm Silver Lynels

A Silver Lynel always drops a Silver Lynel Saber Horn and a Silver Lynel Mace Horn (150 each), four Lynel Hooves (50 each) and Lynel Guts (200): 700 rupees at shop prices for one kill. There are three fixed Silver Lynels in the Depths, two in the Floating Coliseum and one beneath Wetland Stable; see the Lynel page.

Lynel Guts and Gleeok Guts are worth more cooked. Four of either with one critter make an elixir that sells for 1,443 to 1,494 rupees, depending on the critter. Gleeoks drop Gleeok Guts: King Gleeoks always, the others 10% of the time.

Shoot dragon parts

The four dragons, the Light Dragon, Dinraal, Naydra and Farosh, drop a part when you hit them with an arrow. Hit a horn and you get the horn, the most valuable part at 300. The other parts sell for less: a fang shard 250, a claw 180, a scale 150.
