Tears of the Kingdom Great Fairies: All 4 Fountains, Quests and Upgrade Costs

The four Great Fairies upgrade your armor. In Tears of the Kingdom they are all hiding in their flower buds when you arrive, and a travelling band, the Stable Trotters, has to play them out. This page gives where the four fountains are, the quests that open them in order, and what upgrades cost.

How many Great Fairies are there?

Where are the four Great Fairy Fountains?

The number is the order the fountains open in. Coordinates are X, Y of the fairy, as the in-game map shows them.

How do you unlock each Great Fairy?

The fountains open one at a time, and each quest after the first needs an earlier Stable Trotters quest done first (Zelda Dungeon). The band’s leader is Mastro; the quest log explains what each fairy is waiting for.

1. Tera — Serenade to a Great Fairy. Talk to Penn at Lookout Landing and agree to report for the Lucky Clover Gazette, then start the quest at Woodland Stable. The quest log: a Great Fairy “has shut herself up inside her flower bud”, and the plan is to take the troupe to her.
2. Kaysa — Serenade to Kaysa, at Outskirt Stable, after The Flute Player’s Plan. Kaysa loves the flute, but the flautist Pyper is missing at first. Once the troupe is together, “the road to the Great Fairy” is blocked, and the log notes that the horse cannot get through.
3. Cotera — Serenade to Cotera, at Dueling Peaks Stable, after Honey, Bee Mine. Cotera likes the drum; you find the drummer Beetz cooking to cheer Mastro up, and the troupe then heads down to the river.
4. Mija — Serenade to Mija, at Snowfield Stable, after The Hornist’s Dramatic Escape. Mija wants to hear the horn, played by Eustus. The troupe’s cart has no roof, and Mastro is worried the band will catch cold in the snow. When she comes out, Mastro gives you a silver rupee.

What do armor upgrades cost?

Those are the rupees for 102 of the 103 upgradable pieces. The exception is the Ancient Hero’s Aspect, at 30, 150, 600 and 1,500. Every piece of the same set uses the same materials, so the armor upgrade materials page gives one row per set.

What is the material pattern?

Across all 103 upgradable pieces:

• More materials each star. A piece needs 1.5 kinds of material on average for the first star and 2.7 for the fourth.
• Monster parts climb in rank. The monster part most pieces use goes from Bokoblin Guts at the first star to Moblin Guts, Hinox Guts and then Lynel Guts at the fourth.
• Gems and ores add up. Amber (665 in total), Luminous Stone (450), Opal (376) and Flint (367) are the four materials needed in the largest numbers.
• Star Fragments for the hero sets. 26 pieces need Star Fragments: the seven hero sets, Sheik’s Mask and four jewelry pieces. At every star, more pieces need a Star Fragment than any other material. The Depths chests on the Old Maps page hold six of those hero sets.
