Fire Temple Walkthrough: Route, 5 Gongs, Chests (Tears of the Kingdom)
How to reach the Fire Temple from Goron City through the Depths, ring all five gongs with Yunobo in any order, find the chests and beat Marbled Gohma.
The Fire Temple is the last part of the main quest Yunobo of Goron City. It lies in the Depths under Eldin, in the ruins of the ancient Goron city of Gorondia. Nearly every puzzle comes down to aiming Yunobo: you ride mine carts, build ramps out of cooled lava slabs, and launch him at red rocks and gongs.
Where is the Fire Temple and what do you need?

| Locks on the terminal | 5 gongs, any order |
| Chests | 13 |

The temple is hot enough to set Link on fire, so bring flame guard: the Flamebreaker set is sold in Goron City. Swap out wooden weapons and shields, which burn.
How do you get from Goron City to the Fire Temple?
- Snap Yunobo out of it. In Goron City the Gorons are hooked on Marbled Rock Roast and a masked Yunobo is running YunoboCo. Fight him in YunoboCo Storage; breaking his mask brings him back to his senses.
- Climb Death Mountain. Head up the mountain with Yunobo until you reach the crater.
- Beat Moragia. In the crater, board the Zonai flying machine that is already built there and fly close to Moragia. Launch Yunobo at each of its three heads; one hit breaks a head.
- Drop into the Depths. The Death Mountain Chasm opens in the crater. Dive in and light Mustis Lightroot where you land.
- Ride the mine cart west. Walk west to a mine-cart track, attach a fan or a rocket to a cart, and ride it to the end of the line at the temple entrance.
- Activate the terminal. Inside, examine the terminal in front of the gate. It unlocks the temple’s travel point and marks the five locks.
How do you ring all five gongs?
Each gong opens one lock when Yunobo hits it. The order is up to you. Two gongs are on 1F; the others are on 2F, 4F and 5F.
Lock 1: the gong on 1F south
- Cross the lava with slabs. Take the path on the left of the gate. Use the hydrant to pour water on the lava and step across the stone slabs it makes.
- Ride the fan cart. Board the cart, start the fan, and launch Yunobo at the green target so the track switches.
- Defeat the Fire Like. Get off around the corner and deal with the Fire Like.
- Build a slab bridge. Carry the hydrant forward, cool the lava ahead, and join the slabs into a bridge with Ultrahand.
- Break the red rock. Launch Yunobo across the bridge to smash the big red rock.
- Ring the gong. Have Yunobo charge the gong in the next area.
Lock 2: the gong on 2F north
- Take the cart up to 2F. Back at lock 1’s cart, hit the yellow switch to raise the gate, then ride the cart up, with Yunobo breaking the red rock on the track.
- Turn the cart around. At the end of the line, spin the cart with Ultrahand (or hit the device that turns the track), ride back and launch Yunobo at the next target to change the route. A side branch here leads to an Arrow ×10 chest.
- Lower the next track. Walk west and hit the switch that drops another track into place, then ride that cart north.
- Free the hydrant. Launch Yunobo at the red rock in the lava. The hydrant behind it pours out and cools the lava into slabs.
- Cross to the north side. Join the slabs into a bridge with Ultrahand. Alternatively, stand on a slab and Recall it across.
- Ring the gong. Defeat the Soldier Construct and send Yunobo into the gong.
Lock 3: the high gong on 4F north
- Shoot the switch. From lock 2’s cart, fire an arrow at the switch across the room so the track tilts up, then ride to the 3F central platform.
- Set the two switches. At the north end of the platform, the left switch turns the track left or right and the right switch tilts it up or down. Point the right-hand track upward.
- Ride up to 4F. The cart loops around the room; stop the fan at the south end and hop off.
- Uncover a hydrant. Launch Yunobo up the slope at the big red rock. A hydrant is behind it.
- Build a long ramp. Stack the slabs into a long bridge and lean it toward the gong in the middle of the room.
- Ring the gong. Launch Yunobo up the ramp into it.
Lock 4: the gong on 5F
- Return to 3F. Glide back to the central platform on 3F.
- Rocket over the gap. On the southwest track, fix a rocket to a cart and ride it across the break in the rails.
- Rejoin the broken bridge. Put the bridge back together with Ultrahand.
- Knock down the block. Launch Yunobo up the bridge at the red rock on the ceiling. A block falls to the floor.
- Ride the block up. Use Recall on the block and stand on it as it rises to 5F.
- Ring the gong. Have Yunobo charge the gong.
Lock 5: the gong sealed in the 1F tower
- Aim at the tower. This gong sits at the bottom of a closed tower opposite lock 3’s gong. Go back to the ramp you built for lock 3.
- Break the tower wall. Launch Yunobo at the red rock on the side of the tower. You can also glide in from 5F.
- Drop to the bottom. Fall through the tower to 1F. Partway down is a chest with a fused weapon.
- Open the gate. Hit the crystal switch at the bottom.
- Ring the gong. Have Yunobo charge the last gong. The Strong Zonaite Longsword chest is right beside it.
With all five locks open, return to the gate and use the terminal. In the final room the walls curve upward: launch Yunobo up the curve to break the red rock on the ceiling, and the boss drops in.
Where are the Fire Temple chests?
The temple holds 13 chests. Guides disagree on some contents, so only the ones that at least two sources agree on are listed.
| Contents | Where |
|---|---|
| Arrow ×10 (several chests) | Along the mine-cart tracks, including the side branch on the way to lock 2 |
| Strong Zonaite Shield | On the curved track by the central hall |
| Ruby | Near 4F |
| Diamond | Near the area where you fight the Fire Like |
| Soldier II Reaper (fused weapon) | Partway down the lock 5 tower |
| Strong Zonaite Longsword | Next to the 1F gong in the lock 5 tower |
How do you beat Marbled Gohma?
Break two of Marbled Gohma’s legs with Yunobo’s charge. When it collapses, climb on top and hit the eye with your strongest weapon. In the second phase it clings to the curved ceiling; launch Yunobo up the walls or shoot it down. Clear its exploding rock balls with Yunobo or Recall before they trap you. The full fight is on the temple bosses page.
Your reward is a Heart Container and the Vow of Yunobo, Sage of Fire, which lets you summon Yunobo’s avatar and his charge anywhere.
