Water Temple Walkthrough: Route, 4 Faucets, Chests (Tears of the Kingdom)

The Water Temple is the goal of the main quest Sidon of the Zora. It floats on Wellspring Island, high above Lanayru, and its puzzles run on water: water globules that carry objects, Hover Stones, a waterwheel that makes electricity, and Sidon’s water to finish every faucet.

Where is the Water Temple and what do you need?

Bring the Zora Armor: you swim up waterfalls both on the way and inside the temple. Splash Fruit is also useful for washing off sludge.

How do you get from Zora’s Domain to the Water Temple?

1. Clean the statue. In Zora’s Domain, throw Splash Fruit at the sludge-covered statue. This finishes The Sludge-Covered Statue.
2. Meet Sidon at Mipha Court. Sidon of the Zora sends you to Mipha Court at the top of Ploymus Mountain. The side quest Restoring the Zora Armor runs alongside and gives you the armor.
3. Talk to Jiahto at Toto Lake. Sidon sends you to the historian Jiahto, which starts The Broken Slate.
4. Visit King Dorephan. In Clues to the Sky, the king is in the Pristine Sanctum behind the waterfall at Mikau Lake. He gives you 5 King’s Scales.
5. Shoot a scale through the teardrop rock. Swim up the water to Floating Scales Island and fire an arrow fused with a King’s Scale through the teardrop-shaped rock. A pillar of light appears at East Reservoir Lake.
6. Beat the Sludge Like. Report back at Mipha Court and fight the Sludge Like alongside Sidon.
7. Dive into the Ancient Zora Waterworks. At East Reservoir Lake, Sidon opens a whirlpool. Dive in, open the water channels and touch the central device. A huge waterfall rises outside.
8. Swim up to Wellspring Island. Climb the waterfall in the Zora Armor. Gravity is low on the island; keep swimming up the waterfalls until you reach the temple and its terminal.

How do you open all four faucets?

Guides label the faucets differently; here they are named by where they are: west, B1, northeast and east. Each ends when you hit its wheel with Sidon’s water.

Faucet 1: the floodgate on the west side

1. Clear the constructs. Jump across to the west side and defeat the three Soldier Constructs.
2. Wash the globule machine. The device that makes water globules is covered in sludge. Clean it with Sidon’s water or a Splash Fruit.
3. Send the ball up. Pull the metal ball out of the water with Ultrahand and put it into a globule; the globule carries it up. Hop into another globule to follow.
4. Hold the floodgate open. Stick an active Hover Stone on top of the big floodgate and lift it with Ultrahand. The gate stays up and the water drains. You can also hold it with Recall.
5. Finish the faucet. Put the ball into its hole. The gate opens; hit the wheel with Sidon’s water.

Faucet 2: the spike room on B1

1. Walk through the fire. The entrance is under the central platform behind a wall of flame. Pass it inside Sidon’s water shield.
2. Put out the flames. Set a Hover Stone on the floor switch with its float turned off. The fire goes out.
3. Fetch the ball. The ball sits past the spike floor. Stick it onto Hover Stones and move it back to the entrance ledge.
4. Push it into the wall. With the ball on an active Hover Stone, push it into the round hole in the wall. The gate opens.
5. Finish the faucet. Hit the wheel with Sidon’s water.

Faucet 3: the waterwheel on the northeast island

1. Make a waterfall. Fuse the Strong Zonaite Spear on the central platform with a water globule and throw it at the sludge up to the northeast, or shoot it with a Splash Fruit arrow. A waterfall appears.
2. Swim up. Climb the waterfall.
3. Ride the falling globule. Use Recall on the big globule to the north at its lowest point and ride it up.
4. Build the waterwheel. Attach the two panels to opposite sides of the wheel so the waterfall spins it and generates power.
5. Close the circuit. Follow the yellow wire to the gap and place a water globule in it. The power flows and the gate opens.
6. Finish the faucet. Hit the wheel with Sidon’s water.

Faucet 4: the spinning tower on the east island

1. Douse the Fire Like. Put out the Fire Like with Sidon’s water and defeat it.
2. Go up a level. Ascend to the upper platform and clear the Soldier Construct and Chuchus.
3. Wash the tower. Jump from the Hover Stones and aim in mid-air. When the spinning tower’s opening turns toward you, shoot a Splash Fruit arrow in to clear the sludge.
4. Hit the crystal. Jump again and shoot the orange crystal inside with a normal arrow. The pool drains and the gate opens.
5. Finish the faucet. Hit the wheel with Sidon’s water.

When all four faucets are open, return to the terminal. The water washes away the sludge, and Mucktorok appears.

Where are the Water Temple chests?

Guides list these three. One places the Opal in a drained pool on the north side instead of by the spinning tower.

How do you beat Mucktorok?

Mucktorok swims through its own sludge. Hit it with water, from Sidon’s Water Wall or a water-fused arrow, to force it out, then attack until it dives back in. In the second phase sludge covers the arena; wash it away as you go. See the temple bosses page for the full fight.
