BotW Inventory Expansion: Hestu Locations and Korok Seed Costs

How to expand weapon, bow and shield slots in Breath of the Wild: where Hestu goes, starting and maximum slots, and the Korok Seed cost of every upgrade (441 total).

The number of weapons, bows and shields you can carry is capped, and the only way to raise it is to hand Korok Seeds to Hestu. This page covers how to start, where he goes and what each slot costs; for where the 900 seeds are, see Korok Seed locations.

How many slots do you start with, and how many can you get?

Bows581373
Shields41620160
Total35441

There are 900 Korok Seeds, so 459 are left over once everything is maxed, with no other use. The Master Sword gets its own slot and does not take one of your expanded weapon slots; see the Master Sword guide for how to pull it.

Where is Hestu first, and what do you need to do?

Hestu first stands on the road between Kakariko Bridge and Kakariko Village. Talking to him starts the side quest The Priceless Maracas: monsters at a nearby camp took his maracas.

  1. Defeat the Bokoblins at the nearby camp and take Hestu’s Maracas from the camp’s chest.
  2. Bring them back to him.
  3. You need at least one Korok Seed for an upgrade; the first one costs just one seed.

How many Korok Seeds does each upgrade cost?

Each stash has its own price ladder:

The first few are cheap: three upgrades of each stash cost 18 seeds for nine extra slots. Weapon slots climb steeply, ending at 55 seeds for the last one.

Which stash should you expand first?

  • Weapons: they break, you find the most of them, and you feel the limit first.
  • Shields: the flattest prices, never more than 20 seeds a slot, so they are easy to add over time.
  • Bows: only eight upgrades and 73 seeds in total, the cheapest stash to max.

What do you get for all the seeds?

Find all 900 and max every stash, then visit Hestu in Korok Forest for Hestu’s Gift, a keepsake with no in-game effect. For other completion goals, see post-game; Tears of the Kingdom has different prices and locations, covered in TotK inventory expansion.

FAQ

How many Korok Seeds do you need to max your inventory in BotW?
441: 208 for weapons, 73 for bows and 160 for shields. There are 900 seeds in the game, so 459 are left over.
How many slots do you start with, and what is the maximum?
You start with 8 weapon, 5 bow and 4 shield slots. Fully expanded by Hestu that is 19 weapons, 13 bows and 20 shields. The Master Sword gets its own slot on top of these.
Where did Hestu go?
After two upgrades he leaves the Kakariko road for Korok Forest, gets lost, and turns up near Riverside, Wetland or Woodland Stable. If you reach Korok Forest first, he is already there.
Which stash should you expand first?
Weapons are the usual first pick: they break fastest and you find the most of them. Each stash has its own price ladder, so upgrading weapons does not make bows or shields dearer.
