What does Energizing food do in Breath of the Wild?

Energizing food refills the green stamina wheel that climbing, sprinting, swimming and gliding use up. You can eat from the menu while hanging from a cliff, which makes a stamina dish the thing that turns a long climb from a fall into a finish. It does not raise the size of the wheel; that is Enduring.

The game says: “Instantly refills some of your Stamina Wheel.” The elixir’s description: “Restores your stamina, which is used when performing physical actions such as climbing walls or swimming.”

Which ingredients give Energizing?

Six ingredients carry it. Energizing has no levels: the strengths in the pot add up and set how much of the wheel comes back, up to three full wheels in the simulator’s table. The table is not linear, so an extra ingredient does not always add the same amount.

Energetic Rhino Beetle (6) and Restless Cricket (1) are critters, so they only make the Energizing Elixir. Staminoka Bass (4) is the strongest meal ingredient. Courser Bee Honey (2) is a seasoning with a high heart value, which is why a honey dish restores more hearts than a mushroom one.

What is the easiest way to cook Energizing food?

Every row below was run through the cooking simulator built on the game’s data. “Restores” is hearts; the stamina column is how much of the green wheel comes back.

What goes in the potResultEffectRestores
Stamella Shroom ×1Mushroom SkewerRestores 1/5 wheel of stamina1 heart
Courser Bee Honey ×1Honey CandyRestores 2/5 wheel of stamina2 hearts
Staminoka Bass ×1Fish SkewerRestores 1 wheel of stamina2 hearts
Stamella Shroom ×5Mushroom SkewerRestores 1 wheel + 2/5 of stamina5 hearts
Staminoka Bass ×3Fish SkewerRestores 3 wheels of stamina6 hearts
Energetic Rhino Beetle ×1 + Bokoblin Horn ×1Energizing ElixirRestores 1 wheel + 3/5 of stamina—

Carry a few single-ingredient dishes rather than one big pot: a lone Staminoka Bass already gives a full wheel, and three of them are enough for the maximum. Stamella Shrooms are the easiest to pick but weak, so five of them still give less than two Staminoka Bass.

Where do you find Energizing ingredients?

The compendium column is what the Hyrule Compendium shows for each entry. The last column counts where the map data places plants, mushrooms, fruit and honey; fish and critters mostly appear from area spawns, so they have no count.

Stamella ShroomHyrule Ridge, Hyrule Field277; most near Rutile Lake, Tamio River, Seres Scablands
Restless CricketHyrule Field, East Necluda—

Stamella Shrooms grow all over central Hyrule and Hyrule Ridge, which makes them the ones you pick up without trying. Courser Bee Honey comes from the 50 beehives in the map data: knock one down and grab the honey. The game’s description says Bright-Eyed Crabs appear in numbers when it rains, and the compendium lists the Lanayru Great Spring for them. For the Energetic Rhino Beetle, the compendium points to the Akkala Highlands and West Necluda.

FAQ

What is the best Energizing ingredient?
Energetic Rhino Beetle has the highest strength (6), but it can only go into an elixir. For meals, Staminoka Bass (4) is the strongest: one refills a full wheel.
What is the difference between Energizing and Enduring?
Energizing refills the stamina you have used. Enduring refills it and also adds temporary yellow stamina beyond your wheel, which is used up first.
Where do you catch Staminoka Bass?
The Hyrule Compendium lists Hyrule Field and West Necluda as its common locations. The game's description calls it a Hyrule bass that lived long enough to grow big.
