BotW Electro Food: Shock Resistance Recipes and Ingredients
Electro food in Breath of the Wild: the 6 ingredients that give shock resistance, how Lv1 to Lv3 work, the easiest recipes and where to find them.
What does Electro food do in Breath of the Wild?
Electro food raises resistance to electricity; the elixir’s description recommends it against enemies with electrical attacks. It has three levels, with lower thresholds than most effects, and adds 2:30 per ingredient. The obvious place for it is Vah Naboris and the Gerudo Highlands.
The game says: “Grants low-level electricity resistance.” The elixir’s description: “Grants a low-level resistance to electricity. Useful against enemies with electrical attacks.”
Which ingredients give Electro?
Six ingredients carry it. The strengths of the matching ingredients in one pot add up, and a total of 4 or more makes Lv2 and 6 or more Lv3; anything below 4 is Lv1. Duration adds up per piece: each effect ingredient adds 2:30, up to the 30:00 cap.
| Ingredient | Type | Strength | Time each | Sells for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Voltfin Trout | Fish / seafood | 3 | 2:30 | 6 |
| Zapshroom | Mushroom | 2 | 2:30 | 4 |
| Electric Darner | Critter | 2 | 2:30 | 2 |
| Voltfruit | Fruit | 1 | 2:30 | 4 |
| Electric Safflina | Plant | 1 | 2:30 | 3 |
| Thunderwing Butterfly | Critter | 1 | 2:30 | 2 |
Voltfin Trout is the only ingredient with strength 3. Electric Darner and Zapshroom have 2; Voltfruit, Electric Safflina and Thunderwing Butterfly have 1. Electric Darner and Thunderwing Butterfly are critters, so they only make the Electro Elixir.
What is the easiest way to cook an Electro dish?
Every row below was run through the cooking simulator built on the game’s data. “Lv” is the effect level and the time is how long it lasts.
| What goes in the pot | Result | Effect | Restores |
|---|---|---|---|
| Zapshroom ×2 | Mushroom Skewer | Lv2 · 5:00 | 2 hearts |
| Zapshroom ×3 | Mushroom Skewer | Lv3 · 7:30 | 3 hearts |
| Voltfin Trout ×2 | Fish Skewer | Lv3 · 5:00 | 4 hearts |
| Voltfruit ×4 | Simmered Fruit | Lv2 · 10:00 | 4 hearts |
| Zapshroom ×1 + Voltfruit ×4 | Fruit and Mushroom Mix | Lv3 · 12:30 | 5 hearts |
| Electric Darner ×3 + Bokoblin Horn ×1 | Electro Elixir | Lv3 · 8:40 | — |
| Zapshroom ×3 + Shard of Dinraal’s Horn ×1 | Mushroom Skewer | Lv3 · 30:00 | 6.75 hearts |
Because Lv3 only needs 6, three Zapshrooms already reach the top. If you are in the desert, four Voltfruit and a Zapshroom give Lv3 with the longest time on this page short of a dragon part. Four Voltfruit alone stop at Lv2.
Where do you find Electro ingredients?
The compendium column is what the Hyrule Compendium shows for each entry. The last column counts where the map data places plants, mushrooms and fruit; fish and critters mostly appear from area spawns, so they have no count.
| Ingredient | Compendium: common locations | Fixed placements in the map data |
|---|---|---|
| Voltfin Trout | Tabantha Frontier, Hyrule Ridge | — |
| Zapshroom | Deep Akkala, Gerudo Highlands | 190; most near Rok Woods, North Akkala Valley, Akkala Wilds |
| Electric Darner | Hyrule Ridge, Gerudo Desert | — |
| Voltfruit | Gerudo Desert, Gerudo Highlands | 178; most near Southern Oasis, East Barrens, Toruma Dunes |
| Electric Safflina | Gerudo Desert, Hyrule Ridge | 89; most near Northern Icehouse, West Gerudo Ruins, Gerudo Town |
| Thunderwing Butterfly | Hyrule Ridge, Gerudo Highlands | — |
Every placed Voltfruit is in the Gerudo Desert, growing from cacti. Zapshrooms are most common in Akkala, with clusters in North Akkala Valley, and in the Gerudo region. Electric Safflina grows in the Gerudo region too. The game’s description says Electric Darners and Thunderwing Butterflies only appear in the rain, and that Voltfin Trout live in freshwater lakes.
