What does a Fireproof Elixir do in Breath of the Wild?

Fireproof protects Link from catching fire in hot places; the elixir’s description says to pack it when exploring Death Mountain. Without it, wooden gear and Link himself burn near lava. It has two levels and adds 2:30 per critter. It is not heat resistance: for the desert, see Chilly.

The game says: “Grants a fireproof effect, protecting you from catching fire in hot environments.” The elixir’s description: “Grants a fireproof effect, which prevents your body from catching fire. Be sure to pack this when venturing out to explore Death Mountain.”

Which ingredients give Fireproof?

Two ingredients carry it. The strengths of the matching ingredients in one pot add up, and a total of 7 or more makes Lv2, and Lv2 is the ceiling; anything below 7 is Lv1. Duration adds up per piece: each effect ingredient adds 2:30, up to the 30:00 cap.

There are only two. Smotherwing Butterfly has strength 2 and Fireproof Lizard 1. Both are critters, so neither works in a meal: with food they turn into Dubious Food.

What is the easiest way to cook a Fireproof Elixir?

Every row below was run through the cooking simulator built on the game’s data. Each needs at least one monster part; “Lv” is the effect level and the time is how long it lasts.

One Smotherwing Butterfly and any monster part is the minimum: Lv1 for 3:40. For Lv2 you need a strength of 7, which a lizard-only pot never reaches. The monster part only adds time; a high-grade one such as any Guts adds 3:10 instead of 1:10.

Where do you find Fireproof ingredients?

The compendium column is what the Hyrule Compendium shows for each entry. Both ingredients are critters, which mostly appear from area spawns, so the fixed-placement column is left empty; the Fireproof Lizard’s few fixed spots are described below.

Both critters live on Death Mountain and in Eldin Canyon. The game’s description says the Fireproof Lizard can only be found in the Eldin region; in the map data 15 of its 28 placements are around the Southern Mine, where Kima starts the side quest Fireproof Lizard Roundup, whose reward is the Flamebreaker Armor. Smotherwing Butterflies live in volcanic regions, the game says. Monster parts drop from the enemies of Eldin, and the Talus and Hinox pages list the bigger ones.
