Kuh Takkar Shrine Walkthrough: Ice, Fire Jets, and the Frostblade Chest
Step-by-step guide to the Gerudo Highlands ice shrine: melt the frozen entrance, Stasis-launch the ice cube past fire jets, and grab the Frostblade chest.
Where is Kuh Takkar Shrine?
From Gerudo Tower, head northeast into the Gerudo Highlands; the shrine sits on Vatorsa Snowfield at the base of Laparoh Mesa. The approach is open, snowy highland terrain the whole way. When you arrive, you’ll find the shrine itself sealed inside a chunk of ice that must be melted before you can enter. If you’re shrine-hunting the area, Keeha Yoog lies to the northwest, while Sasa Kai and Sho Dantu are off to the southwest.

What should you bring?
Bring a fire source to melt the ice around the entrance: Fire Arrows, a Flameblade, a Great Flameblade, or a Flamespear all work, or you can light a campfire beside it. Inside, you need the Magnesis and Stasis runes plus any melee weapon to hit the ice cube while it’s frozen. It’s a long, cold walk across the snowfield, so cold protection makes the trip more comfortable. Nothing else is required.

How do you solve Kuh Takkar Shrine?
The entire trial is an escort mission: get an ice cube from the entrance to the altar without letting the fire jets melt it. Stasis launches the cube where you can’t carry it, and the lava-submerged metal block doubles as a shield for both the cube and you.
1. Enter shrine and pick up the ice cube
Outside, the shrine is encased in a chunk of ice. Melt it with Fire Arrows, a Flameblade, Great Flameblade, or Flamespear — or build a campfire next to it — then go inside.
An ice block sits at the entrance, and the monk’s voice tells you the path forward only opens when you offer a block of ice. Pick up the ice cube — it’s your cargo for the whole trial.
2. Walk and time your way past the first fire jets
First stretch: jets of fire shooting from the floor. Simply walk around them while carrying the cube — nothing tricky yet.
Next, a spinning fire jet sweeps across the path. Watch its rhythm and carry the ice past it between sweeps; time it well and you’ll have no issue.
3. Launch the ice under constant horizontal jets with Stasis
You’ll reach a line of constant horizontal fire jets. You cannot carry the cube over your head here — instead, set it down, use Stasis on the ice cube, then hit it a couple of times so it goes flying underneath the jets.
Run under the jets yourself — you’ll pass no problem — and pick the ice cube back up on the far side.
4. Cross the lava, use the metal cube, get the Frostblade
Ahead is a small river of lava with a metal block in it. Cross the lava by walking over the metal block, then set the ice cube down on safe ground.
Use Magnesis to lift the metal cube out of the lava and move it over to block the fire jets up ahead. You can then pass to the left of the metal cube with your ice, unharmed.
Before continuing, grab the treasure: set the ice down, Magnesis the metal cube onto the fire jets to the left of the ones you just passed, then paraglide down onto the cube and loot the chest below for a Frostblade.
Climb the ladder back up to the route, and bring the metal cube back up with Magnesis — you’ll need it again in a moment.
5. Pass the vertical jets and deliver the ice to the altar
Final gauntlet: a row of vertical fire jets. First, align the metal cube on the ground underneath a few of the jets.
Stasis the ice cube and hit it a couple of times, very quickly, then — before Stasis runs out — lift the metal cube with Magnesis to create a small pathway beneath the flames. When Stasis releases, the ice cube flies beneath the metal block untouched, so long as you time and angle it well.
To get yourself through, hold the metal cube directly above your head with Magnesis and walk slowly beneath the fire jets.
Pick up the ice cube and carry it to the altar at the top of the shrine. The door opens, and monk Kuh Takkar rewards you with a Spirit Orb.
What is in the chest?
| Chest | Contents | How to get it |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Frostblade | After the lava river, set the ice down and Magnesis the metal cube onto the fire jets to the left of the ones you just passed through. Paraglide down onto the cube and open the chest in the fire-blocked pillar below, then climb the ladder back up to the route. |
What do people miss here?
- Trying to carry the ice cube over your head past the horizontal fire jets — it doesn’t work and the flames will melt it. Use the Stasis launch under the jets instead.
- Panicking when the cube fully melts: there’s no fail state. A new ice cube spawns at the beginning of the trial, so just walk back and grab a fresh one.
- Walking straight past the Frostblade chest — it sits below the main route, and you only reach it by repositioning the metal cube onto the left-hand jets and paragliding down.
- Leaving the metal cube down in the chest pit — bring it back up with Magnesis via the ladder route, because you need it for the final vertical-jet section.
- Doing the final section in the wrong order: Stasis and hit the ice first, then lift the metal cube before the Stasis timer ends. Lift the cube too early or too late and the launch won’t clear the flames.
