BotW Lord of the Mountain: When It Appears and How to Ride It
Find the Lord of the Mountain (Satori) in Breath of the Wild: when it appears on Satori Mountain, how to sneak up and mount it, its stats, and why it vanishes.
What is the Lord of the Mountain?
The Lord of the Mountain is a unique creature in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild: shaped like a horse, crowned with golden antlers and glowing a pale blue-white. Its Hyrule Compendium entry reads:
This noble creature watches over all animals that make their homes in the forest. Legends say this holy creature is a reincarnation of a sage that died on the lands it now protects. It has an acute awareness of its surroundings, so it seldom appears before people. It’s sometimes known by its other name, Satori.
You can ride it like a horse, and it can gallop longer than any other mount; but it cannot be registered and it is gone once you dismount. For every other horse and the stables, see the horse guide.

Where and when does the Lord of the Mountain appear?
Satori Mountain is northwest of the Great Plateau, in front of Hyrule Ridge. On its summit are a cherry tree and a small pond, and the Lord of the Mountain appears beside that pond.
It is not always there. It is on the mountain only while a green beam of light rises from the summit, and that beam appears at no fixed time — by day or by night. The beam is easy to spot from the nearby plains or towers; when you see it, warp over straight away.
One traveler describes it: “Normally, few animals make their home around Satori Mountain, just ahead… But they say an appearance by the Lord of the Mountain calls to the souls of the animals and makes them gather.” When it appears, the summit fills with Blupees and other animals.
How do you sneak up on and ride the Lord of the Mountain?
It spooks easily and runs if it notices you. The method is the same as catching a wild horse, only more careful:
- Warp to Mogg Latan Shrine and walk up to the summit, crouching as you get close.
- Use the Sheikah Slate scope to see which side of the pond it is on, and circle round behind it.
- Stealth-boosting food or armor helps a lot.
- Get alongside and mount it. It will buck; keep soothing it.
In the game data the Lord of the Mountain’s soothe value is 40, higher than the Giant Horse’s 30 and the highest of any mount. Reportedly you want at least two stamina wheels, or stamina food to eat while it struggles.
What do you get once you ride it?
| Stat | Lord of the Mountain | Ordinary horses |
|---|---|---|
| HP | 100 | 80 to 300 |
| Spurs | 5 | 2 to 5 |
| Spur recovery | Refills the moment you use one | Recovers slowly over time |
These are the game’s parameter values (ordinary horses vary by type). The big advantage is that spurs refill instantly, so you can gallop all the way — ideal for long rides.
Because it cannot be registered, no stable shows its Strength, Speed or Stamina stars; claims that it is “maxed out” are guesswork.
What are the limits?
- It cannot be registered, so you can only use it on the spot.
- Getting off loses it: gather or fight from the saddle where you can.
- Reportedly, if you save while riding it you are still on its back after loading; if you save while it stands on the mountain, it is gone after loading.
- 100 HP is on the low side for a mount, so be careful if enemies surround you.
