Horses are the fastest way across Hyrule Field before you have many travel points. This page shows where every stable is, how to catch and register a horse, what the three stats do, where the special horses live, and how to get every saddle and bridle.

Where are all the stables?

Drag to move and zoom in to tell the points apart; on a computer, click the map first and the mouse wheel zooms it. Ticks are saved in this browser only; no account is needed.

Click a coordinate to show that spot on the map above. In the game, move the map cursor until the X, Y readout matches, then drop a pin.

2 East Akkala Stable North Akkala Foothill Akkala
3 Foothill Stable Cephla Lake Eldin
4 Gerudo Canyon Stable Gerudo Desert Gateway Wasteland
5 Highland Stable Fural Plain Lake
6 Lakeside Stable Ubota Point Faron
7 Outskirt Stable Aquame Lake Central
8 Rito Stable Lake Totori Tabantha
9 Riverside Stable Hylia River Central
10 Serenne Stable Salari Plain Woodland
11 Snowfield Stable S. Tabantha Snowfield Hebra
12 South Akkala Stable Kanalet Ridge Akkala
13 Tabantha Bridge Stable Tabantha Great Bridge Ridgeland
14 Wetland Stable Rebonae Bridge Lanayru
15 Woodland Stable Pico Pond Woodland

Positions are the game’s own stable markers, X, Y as the in-game map shows them. Horses cannot go into the Gerudo Desert or up Death Mountain, so neither has a stable.

At any stable you can register a horse, take one out or board it. Registering costs 20 rupees and you can keep five horses at a time. The stable hands at Highland, Outskirt, South Akkala and Woodland stables change gear and manes, once the horse’s bond is at the maximum.

How do you catch and register a horse?

  1. Sneak up from behind. Crouch and approach slowly; horses bolt if they notice you. Gliding onto one from a cliff also works.
  2. Soothe it until it calms down. Two-toned (spotted) horses are Gentle and need no soothing. Solid-coloured horses are Wild: press the soothe button while your stamina lasts; most need 15 presses, the White Horse 25 and the Giant Horse 30 (the game’s horse files).
  3. Ride it to a stable and register it. Talk to the attendant at the desk, pay 20 rupees and name it. The horse gets a saddle and bridle and its stats become visible.
  4. Build the bond. Soothe it after a gallop and feed it apples; at a bond of 100 it follows roads on its own and a stable hand will change its gear.

What do horse stats mean?

StatWhat it doesRange
StrengthThe horse’s HP80 HP (1 star) to 300 HP (5 stars)
SpeedCanter and gallop speed2 to 5 stars
StaminaSpurs: how many times it can gallop before resting2 to 5 spurs, one per star

Gentle horses top out at three stars and are easy to ride; Wild horses have the better stats but must be tamed. An Endura Carrot gives three extra temporary spurs.

Where do you find the best wild horses?

In Taobab Grassland, south of the Great Plateau, and Upland Lindor on Hyrule Ridge. The herds there can have a horse with 4 Strength, 4 Speed and 5 Stamina, the highest total a normal horse gets; 5/3/5 and 2/5/3 horses also appear. No normal horse has five stars in everything. A useful trick: save on the cliff above Taobab Grassland, glide onto the solid-coloured leader, register it at Highland Stable, and reload if the stats disappoint.

  • Giant Horse: the side quest Hunt for the Giant Horse from Straia at the Mounted Archery Camp: ride it back to him for a Silver Rupee. It cannot gallop, though its canter is said to be faster than a 2-star horse’s gallop.
  • White Horse: the side quest The Royal White Stallion from Toffa at Outskirt Stable; show him the registered White Horse for the Royal Saddle and Royal Bridle.
  • Lord of the Mountain: only there when the summit glows; stables refuse it.
  • Epona: scan the Super Smash Bros. Link or Twilight Princess Link amiibo; see amiibo rewards. Her gallop lasts longer than any other horse’s: the game data gives her 120 frames per spur against 90.

How do you revive a dead horse?

Malanya, the Horse God, sits in a flower bud at Malanya Spring, over Horse God Bridge southeast of Highland Stable. Pay 1,000 rupees to wake him; after that he revives any registered horse that died. The first revival is reportedly free, with later ones costing an Endura Carrot. Reloading a save from before the horse died also works.
