BotW Sneaky Food: Stealth Recipes and Ingredients
Sneaky food in Breath of the Wild: the 6 ingredients that boost stealth, how Lv1 to Lv3 work, the easiest recipes and where to find them.
What does Sneaky food do in Breath of the Wild?
Sneaky food calms the nerves and silences footfalls, as the elixir’s description says, so monsters and animals notice you later. It has three levels and adds 2:00 per ingredient. It is handy for sneaking up on wildlife, stealing from a camp, and the Yiga Clan Hideout.
The game says: “Grants a low-level stealth boost.” The elixir’s description: “Grants a low-level stealth effect, which calms the nerves and silences footfalls. Allows you to move about undetected by monsters and animals.”
Which ingredients give Sneaky?
Six ingredients carry it. The strengths of the matching ingredients in one pot add up, and a total of 6 or more makes Lv2 and 9 or more Lv3; anything below 6 is Lv1. Duration adds up per piece: each effect ingredient adds 2:00, up to the 30:00 cap.
| Ingredient | Type | Strength | Time each | Sells for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Silent Princess | Plant | 3 | 2:00 | 10 |
| Stealthfin Trout | Fish / seafood | 2 | 2:00 | 10 |
| Silent Shroom | Mushroom | 2 | 2:00 | 3 |
| Sneaky River Snail | Fish / seafood | 1 | 2:00 | 6 |
| Blue Nightshade | Plant | 1 | 2:00 | 4 |
| Sunset Firefly | Critter | 1 | 2:00 | 2 |
Silent Princess is the only ingredient with strength 3. Silent Shroom and Stealthfin Trout have 2; Blue Nightshade, Sneaky River Snail and Sunset Firefly have 1. The firefly is the only critter, so it is the only way to a Sneaky Elixir.
What is the easiest way to cook a Sneaky dish?
Every row below was run through the cooking simulator built on the game’s data. “Lv” is the effect level and the time is how long it lasts.
| What goes in the pot | Result | Effect | Restores |
|---|---|---|---|
| Silent Shroom ×3 | Mushroom Skewer | Lv2 · 6:00 | 3 hearts |
| Silent Princess ×2 | Fried Wild Greens | Lv2 · 4:00 | 4 hearts |
| Silent Princess ×3 | Fried Wild Greens | Lv3 · 6:00 | 6 hearts |
| Silent Shroom ×5 | Mushroom Skewer | Lv3 · 10:00 | 5 hearts |
| Blue Nightshade ×5 | Fried Wild Greens | Lv1 · 10:00 | 0 hearts |
| Stealthfin Trout ×3 | Fish Skewer | Lv2 · 6:00 | 6 hearts |
| Sunset Firefly ×4 + Bokoblin Horn ×1 | Sneaky Elixir | Lv1 · 9:10 | — |
| Silent Princess ×3 + Shard of Dinraal’s Horn ×1 | Fried Wild Greens | Lv3 · 30:00 | 9.75 hearts |
Lv3 needs 9, the highest bar of any effect, so plan on either three Silent Princesses or five Silent Shrooms. The shrooms are far easier to find and give a longer effect, 10:00 against 6:00. Blue Nightshade alone never gets past Lv1, even five of it.
Where do you find Sneaky ingredients?
The compendium column is what the Hyrule Compendium shows for each entry. The last column counts where the map data places plants and mushrooms; fish and critters mostly appear from area spawns, so they have no count.
| Ingredient | Compendium: common locations | Fixed placements in the map data |
|---|---|---|
| Silent Princess | Hyrule Ridge, West Necluda | 40; most near Great Fairy Fountain, Satori Mountain, Rutile Lake |
| Stealthfin Trout | Great Hyrule Forest, Eldin Mountains | — |
| Silent Shroom | Lanayru Great Spring, West Necluda | 471; most near Hickaly Woods, Thyphlo Ruins, Ruto Mountain |
| Sneaky River Snail | West Necluda, Lanayru Great Spring | — |
| Blue Nightshade | West Necluda, Lanayru Great Spring | 131; most near Great Fairy Fountain, Farosh Hills, Korok Forest |
| Sunset Firefly | West Necluda, Great Hyrule Forest | — |
Silent Shrooms glow softly at night, the game says; the thickest clusters are in Hickaly Woods and around the Thyphlo Ruins. Blue Nightshade also glows; many grow around Great Fairy Fountains and Farosh Hills. There are only 40 placed Silent Princesses, spread over Hyrule Ridge, Satori Mountain and around the fountains. The game’s description says Stealthfin Trout glow in the dark; they are plentiful in Lake Mekar. Sunset Fireflies come out at night.
