BotW Tarrey Town: From the Ground Up Wood, Residents & Rewards
Build Tarrey Town in Breath of the Wild: start From the Ground Up, deliver 110 bundles of wood, find Greyson, Rhondson, Fyson and Kapson, and earn three Diamonds.
What do you have to do to build Tarrey Town?
Tarrey Town is the village you help build from nothing in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. It is the side quest From the Ground Up, given by Hudson, a carpenter at Bolson Construction. The quest is a loop of “deliver wood, recruit someone, deliver more wood” four times over, finished off with a wedding.
| Stage | Give Hudson | Then recruit | Where | Unlocks when they arrive |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 10 bundles of wood | Greyson the Goron (brings his brother Pelison) | Southern Mine, at night | Ore and More |
| 2 | 20 bundles of wood | Rhondson the Gerudo | Kara Kara Bazaar | Rhondson Armor Boutique |
| 3 | 30 bundles of wood | Fyson the Rito | Rito Village | Slippery Falcon (Tarrey Town Branch) |
| 4 | 50 bundles of wood | Kapson the Zora | Zora’s Domain | Kapson’s inn (free) |
| 5 | — | Bolson and Karson (wedding guests) | Hateno Village | The wedding, 3 Diamonds |
That is 110 bundles of wood in total. You do not need it all at once; Hudson names the next recruit once you hand over the amount for the current stage.
How do you start From the Ground Up?
It follows Hylian Homeowner in Hateno Village: bring Bolson 30 bundles of wood and he drops the old house from 50,000 rupees to 3,000. Once you have paid for the house, talk to Bolson Construction’s Hudson. He says he has been transferred to the Akkala region to expand the business, and the quest begins.
You do not have to buy the furniture and exterior work first; buying the house is enough. Reportedly, if you finish Tarrey Town before the renovations, Bolson and Karson stay in Tarrey Town and you have to talk to Bolson there before they go back to Hateno Village.
Where is Tarrey Town?
Tarrey Town is built on the round rocky island in the middle of Lake Akkala, in the Akkala Highlands. After you take the quest, follow the objective north and you will find Hudson on the island.
The nearest fast-travel points are Akkala Tower and Dah Hesho Shrine, which sits on the cliff south of the lake. Talk to Hudson, offer to help, and he asks for the first 10 bundles of wood.
How much wood do you need, and where do you get it?
| Delivery | Bundles | Running total |
|---|---|---|
| First | 10 | 10 |
| Second | 20 | 30 |
| Third | 30 | 60 |
| Fourth | 50 | 110 |
Wood comes from cutting down trees. You can gather all 110 bundles up front, or top up to each stage’s amount before you head back to Tarrey Town.
The 30 bundles you gave Bolson for the house are a separate payment and do not count toward these 110.
Where do you find the four recruits?
After every delivery, Hudson adds one condition. In his words:
Yeah, in accordance with the official Bolson Construction policy, that someone’s name must end in “son.” If you run into anyone that fits with what I’ve said, send them here to Tarrey Town for me.
So each time you need someone of a given race whose name ends in “son”. Tell them about Tarrey Town and they set off; then go back and talk to Hudson before the next wood delivery comes up.
First: Greyson the Goron (Southern Mine, at night)
Hudson wants the boulders on the building site cleared, so he asks for a Goron with brute strength. That is Greyson at the Southern Mine in Eldin Canyon.
He works the mine during the day, and if you talk to him then you only get:
It’s time to work now. If ya wanna talk, come back at night when I’m relaxin’.
Come back at night and find him by the mine’s cooking pot. Once he agrees, he and his younger brother Pelison move to Tarrey Town together. Greyson breaks up the boulders, and Pelison opens Ore and More to sell the ore they find inside.
Second: Rhondson the Gerudo (Kara Kara Bazaar)
After the 20-bundle delivery, Hudson’s work clothes are falling apart and he wants a Gerudo skilled at sewing. Go to Kara Kara Bazaar in the Gerudo Desert; Rhondson sits in the shade beside the inn.
Once in Tarrey Town she mends Hudson’s clothes and opens the Rhondson Armor Boutique, which sells the Desert Voe set (Desert Voe Headband, Spaulder and Trousers). The Gerudo Secret Club in Gerudo Town sells the same set.
Third: Fyson the Rito (Rito Village)
After the 30-bundle delivery, Hudson wants a general store and asks for a Rito who knows how to run a shop. Find Fyson in Rito Village; his family already runs a general store.
In Tarrey Town he opens the Slippery Falcon (Tarrey Town Branch), which mainly sells arrows.
Fourth: Kapson the Zora (Zora’s Domain)
After the 50-bundle delivery, Hudson announces that he is engaged to Rhondson and needs a Zora who can act as a priest for the wedding. That is Kapson, a retired priest in Zora’s Domain; look for him one level up from Ne’ez Yohma Shrine.
Gaddison, a Zora guard, also has a name ending in “son”, but she says she is a soldier and could never be a priest, and points you to the retired priest Kapson, who she says should be in the sleeping chamber. Once Kapson reaches Tarrey Town he runs an inn where you can stay for free.
How do you trigger the wedding, and what is the reward?
With Kapson in town, Hudson wants his boss Bolson and his junior Karson as guests, but he is too busy with the preparations, so he asks you to invite them.
- Go back to Hateno Village, find Bolson and Karson near your house and tell them about the wedding. They set off for Tarrey Town.
- Return to Tarrey Town and talk to Hudson to start the ceremony. Kapson also tells you that everything is ready and to talk to Hudson when you want to begin.
- After the wedding, talk to Hudson again for 3 Diamonds, gems that were dug up while the town was being built.
If your materials pouch has no room for three Diamonds (no free slot, or your Diamond stack is near its cap), Hudson says so (“it looks like you haven’t got room for three diamonds”). Sell or drop something and come back for them.
Video walkthrough
What shops and services does the finished town have?
| Place | Run by | What it offers | When it opens |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ore and More | Pelison | Ore from the broken boulders | When Greyson and Pelison arrive |
| Rhondson Armor Boutique | Rhondson | Desert Voe set | When Rhondson arrives |
| Slippery Falcon (Tarrey Town Branch) | Fyson | Arrows | When Fyson arrives |
| Inn | Kapson | Free stays; you choose when to wake up | When Kapson arrives |
| Granté’s shop | Granté | Rare armor you have owned but no longer carry, and the Hylian Shield (3,000 rupees) | After the quest, on the balcony of the house by the town entrance |
Granté only sells things you have obtained before. If you lose an Expansion Pass set, for example, you can buy it back from him; see DLC armor sets. He sells the Hylian Shield only when you do not have one.
Two more side quests open in Tarrey Town afterwards: Ruli’s A Parent’s Love and Hagie’s Hobbies of the Rich. The second asks you to defeat the two Guardians in Torin Wetland; the ancient materials guide covers the Guardians around there.
What should you check if you get stuck?
| Problem | Check this first |
|---|---|
| The quest will not start | Pay the 3,000 rupees for the Hateno Village house first, then talk to Hudson |
| Greyson just says it’s time to work | He only talks at night; find him by the cooking pot at the Southern Mine after dark |
| Someone of the right race will not come | The name has to end in “son”: Greyson, Rhondson, Fyson, Kapson |
| You cannot find Kapson | Look one level up from Ne’ez Yohma Shrine, or ask the guard Gaddison |
| The recruit has left but nothing happens | Go back to Tarrey Town and talk to Hudson; he asks for the next wood only after confirming the arrival |
| No Diamonds after the wedding | No room in your materials pouch; sell or drop something and talk to Hudson again |
| You cannot find Granté | He appears only after the whole quest, on the balcony of the house by the entrance |
Every other side quest is listed by region in the side quests list.
