Breath of the Wild Great Fairy Fountains: Locations, Costs and Horse God
Where the four Great Fairy Fountains and the Horse God Malanya are in Breath of the Wild, what each fairy costs to release, and how many you need per armor upgrade.
The Great Fairies upgrade your armor, and each one you release raises the maximum level for all of them. This page gives the four fountains with coordinates, the release prices, the upgrade levels each fairy unlocks, and the Horse God, who uses the same kind of flower bud but does something else.

How much does each Great Fairy cost?

The price follows the order, not the fairy. Whichever fountain you open first costs 100 rupees, and the last one always costs 10,000.
How do you unlock a Great Fairy?
- Find the fountain. Each Great Fairy is hidden in a closed flower bud at the spot in the table above.
- Talk to the bud. The fairy asks for rupees; the amount is the one for your next slot in the price table.
- Pay the rupees. She comes out and the fountain opens for upgrades.
- Pick the armor to upgrade. Each upgrade takes the materials listed on the upgrade screen; there is no rupee fee for the upgrade itself.
Cotera is usually the first fairy you meet: the main quest Find the Fairy Fountain, from the painter Pikango in Kakariko Village, asks you to find and photograph her fountain.
How many Great Fairies do you need for each armor upgrade?

All four fairies have the same powers. Once you have released three, any of them can do a ★★★ upgrade, so pick whichever fountain is closest. Upgrading a matching set to ★★ or higher turns on its set bonus. Some armor cannot be upgraded at all; the fairy will not offer it. Where is the Horse God and what does he do?

Perosa at Highland Stable is the one who mentions him. His price does not follow the Great Fairy order, and he does not count as one of the four: releasing him adds no armor level. He can only bring back a horse that was registered at a stable, and not if that would take you past five registered horses.
