Where is Pumaag Nitae Shrine?

From Lake Tower, head east toward the boundary of Pagos Woods and Finra Woods and look for the entrance along the forest edge. No shrine quest is needed to unlock it. Use the BotW shrine location list to check the target before searching.

What should you bring?

No rune abilities are needed here — there is no Magnesis, Stasis, Cryonis or bomb mechanism, just a duel with a Guardian Scout II that has 375 HP. Bring at least one melee weapon in good condition, ideally with a spare, because a fight this long burns durability; a bow with ordinary or Shock Arrows for its eye, and ice or electric attacks to freeze or stun it, are optional but shorten the fight. As a Minor Test of Strength the Scout is fairly weak, so everyday gear is enough — don’t burn your best weapons here.

How do you solve A Minor Test of Strength?

The gate opens when the Scout is defeated. Bring combat equipment; there is no Magnesis, Stasis, Cryonis or bomb mechanism to solve along this route.

1. Defeat the Guardian Scout

Enter the central arena. Approach the middle to bring up the Scout and start the fight.

Dodge, then counterattack. Backflip or side-hop away from melee strikes, then attack; if it spins and charges, stay clear until the spin ends and punish the pause. You can also aim arrows at the eye, or use ice or electricity to interrupt normal attacks.

Glide over a floor-sweeping laser if it appears. The beam creates an updraft; open the paraglider and use that lift to get above the sweep and approach the Scout.

Run to avoid the charged beam near the end. If the Scout begins charging its stronger laser, keep moving to evade it before resuming your attacks. Continue until it falls; these attacks are conditional, not switches that must each be triggered.

2. Open the chest and finish the shrine

Pass through the newly opened gate and open the chest. You can pick up the Scout’s dropped equipment and materials on the way. The chest contains the Boomerang.

Approach the monk to finish. Interact at the altar to receive the Spirit Orb.

What do people miss here?

• The chest’s Boomerang is not a stock one — it comes with an Attack+10 bonus, a step above a plain Boomerang, so don’t skip it just because boomerangs feel optional.
• The defeated Scout drops its Guardian Sword and Guardian Shield, but this is a Minor Test, so that gear is low-tier: if you are already preparing to confront Ganon or have defeated him at least once, the drops will be of no use to you. The Spirit Orb is the real reward, so don’t come here to farm Guardian equipment.
• The shrine sits on a regional seam — Pagos Woods is in the Faron Grasslands, Finra Woods is in West Necluda, and the shrine at their border is filed under Faron Grasslands. If you tick shrines off region by region, it is easy to assume this one belongs to the other region and never search this stretch of forest edge.
