BotW Royal Shield: Guard, Durability and Locations

Royal Shield is a shield in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. The game describes it this way: “A shield issued to the Hyrulean royal family’s immediate guard detail. It boasts a high defense, but these days it’s more a collector’s item due to its ornamentation.” This page gives its numbers and maps every place the game puts one.

Where do you get Royal Shield?

The game’s world data places it in 9 spots: 1 in treasure chests, 6 carried by monsters, and 2 lying in the world. The most are near Coliseum Ruins (6), in the Central tower region.

Zoom the map in to tell the points apart, and pick a kind or a monster in the list above it.

The same spots summed by nearest landmark, largest group first. “Show on map” moves the map above to one of them.

• Carried by a monster: beat the monster and it drops the weapon. Most often Black Lizalfos (2), Black Bokoblin (2), and Black Moblin (2). Monsters get stronger weapons as you defeat more of them, so the one you meet may carry a better one.
• Treasure chest: open the chest to take it.
• Lying in the world: placed in the scenery, free to pick up.

How good is Royal Shield?

It has guard 55 and durability 29. How durability runs down is in weapon durability; the strongest picks are in best weapons.
