Where is Ketoh Wawai Shrine?

Ketoh Wawai Shrine is hidden in Typhlo Ruins, the pitch-black ruins north of the Great Hyrule Forest — once unearthed, it stands in the northeast corner of the ruins. Walk in from the western entrance, where you’ll spot a free Torch beside a bird-shaped torch. Princess Zelda’s research notes call these the ‘Slumbering Ruins’ and wonder whether the darkness itself acts as a test for the chosen one. The other Ancient Shrines in the Great Hyrule Forest are Daag Chokah, Kuhn Sidajj, and Maag Halan. The obstacles along the way are the darkness itself and the Blue Hinox that carries the orb hidden in the depths of the ruins.

What should you bring?

No runes or special gear are needed — what you need is light. Bring a torch, a flame weapon, or supplies to make a fire, because the ruins are completely shrouded in darkness and your goal is to light the sconces as you go; without a light source you can’t see where you’re going. A decent weapon also helps: a Blue Hinox wears the Ancient Orb you’re after, and defeating it is one way to claim it. The shrine interior itself has no puzzles or requirements.

How do you solve Ketoh Wawai Shrine?

The entire trial is the darkness itself: navigate Typhlo Ruins by lighting the bird-shaped torches, then take the orb from the Blue Hinox to the pedestal to raise the shrine.

1. Navigate the Dark Ruins

Stock up before entering: bring a torch, a flame weapon, or materials to make a fire. When you approach Typhlo Ruins you’ll find yourself completely shrouded in darkness.

Head to Typhlo Ruins, north of the Great Hyrule Forest, and enter from the western entrance. As you first step in, the monk’s voice rings out — ‘Traveler from beyond the woods, you are now faced with a trial… Find the shrine hidden within these dark ruins…’ — which starts the Shrouded Shrine quest.

Just inside the western entrance, pick up the Torch lying near a bird-shaped torch so you have a light to carry.

Light your torch with a flame weapon or a fire you make — you’ll need it to see the sconces ahead as you move into the dark.

Move deeper and light each bird-shaped torch (sconce) you reach as you go — they mark your path, and they won’t ever be too far away.

Follow the line of bird torches deeper into the ruins until you reach the depths, where a Blue Hinox stands with an Ancient Orb hanging around its neck.

2. Unearth the Shrine

Take the Ancient Orb — sneak in and steal it from around the Hinox’s neck, or defeat the Hinox first so it can’t chase you down.

Carry the Ancient Orb through the dark to the nearby pedestal with a concave slot.

Place the orb in the concave slot — as your Adventure Log records it, ‘a shrine appeared!’ — and Ketoh Wawai Shrine is unearthed, completing the quest.

3. Claim the Blessing

Enter the shrine. Ketoh Wawai greets you: ‘To you who sets foot in the shrine… I am Ketoh Wawai. By entering this place, you’ve already proven your worth.’ This is a Blessing shrine — no puzzles at all, just a straight path to the monk’s pedestal.

Walk the straight path toward the monk and open the treasure chest along the way — it contains an Ancient Core.

Approach Ketoh Wawai to receive your Spirit Orb — ‘In the name of Goddess Hylia, I bestow upon you this Spirit Orb’ — then the monk wishes you well (‘May the Goddess smile upon you’) and fades away.

What do people miss here?

• Entering without any way to make fire. The ruins are completely shrouded in darkness once you enter; without light you can’t find the torches, the Hinox, or your way around. A free torch waits at the western entrance, but you still need something to light it with.
• Not lighting the bird torches as you go. They are your landmarks in the dark — skip them and you’ll wander in circles. Light every sconce you pass.
• Dealing with the Blue Hinox and walking away without the orb. The Ancient Orb hanging around its neck is the actual objective — it must be placed in the pedestal’s concave slot before the shrine appears.
• Rushing straight to the monk. With no puzzle to slow you down, it’s easy to run past the single chest holding the Ancient Core on the straight path — grab it before you collect the Spirit Orb.
• Expecting a puzzle inside. The trial is literally named ‘Ketoh Wawai’s Blessing’ — the monk tells you that by entering you’ve already proven your worth, and the interior is just a straight path, one chest, and the Spirit Orb.
