BotW Moblins: Every Rank, HP, Drops and Spawn Map
Every Moblin in Breath of the Wild, red to Golden, plus Stalmoblins: HP, drops and gem chances, weak points, fast kills and a map of all 266 placed Moblins.
The game calls the Moblin a “heavyweight species of monster” found all over Hyrule, “much more dangerous than Bokoblins”, strong enough to pick up a Bokoblin and throw it. This page covers every Moblin in Breath of the Wild, from the red Moblin through Blue, Black and Silver to the Master Mode Golden Moblin and the Stalmoblin: HP and drops from the game’s own data, how to recognize each rank, the quickest kills, and a map of all 266 Moblins the game places in Normal Mode. Other monster families are in the enemy overview.
How do you tell the Moblin ranks apart?
| Rank | HP | How to recognize it |
|---|---|---|
| Moblin (red) | 56 | Red skin, pink snout |
| Blue Moblin | 144 | Blue-black skin with orange markings |
| Black Moblin | 360 | Dark brown-black skin with grey patches |
| Silver Moblin | 1,080 | White-grey body with purple patterns |
| Golden Moblin (Master Mode) | 1,620 | Gold body with white patches, dark horn |
| Stalmoblin | 2 | A skeleton; only at night |
Every Moblin has the same single long horn, so go by the skin color. The HP comes from the game’s parameter files; the Silver Moblin’s purple patterns are from its Hyrule Compendium entry, the other colors from the models below.
Stronger ranks are better armed. The game says Blue Moblins “often have much stronger weapons equipped” and Black Moblins “are often armed with some of the strongest weapons Moblins can carry”.
The Silver Moblin is the strongest Moblin in Normal Mode. The game says “Ganon’s fiendish magic” made it stronger and tougher even than the Black Moblin, and that the purple patterns help it stand out.
What is the Golden Moblin?
A Golden Moblin has 1,620 HP and exists only in Master Mode, the hard mode that comes with the first DLC pack. The game says it is said to be a Silver Moblin that changed after being struck by lightning, which may be why it has “such a high tolerance for electric attacks”.
What are Stalmoblins?
Stalmoblins are the remains of Moblins and appear “in the dark of the night”, the game says. A Stalmoblin crumbles after a few attacks, but “as long as a skull remains intact” it pulls itself back together. Its body has 2 HP and the skull 1, so break the skull once the body falls apart. A Stalmoblin’s arm can be picked up as a weapon, the Moblin Arm.
How do you beat Moblins fast?
- Aim for the head. The damage files put every Moblin’s weak point on the head with a damage ratio of 2.0, so headshots with arrows do double damage.
- Freeze, then hit hard. Being frozen deals 10 damage, and the blow that breaks the ice deals triple damage (ice break ratio 3.0 in the damage files). An Ice Arrow followed by your strongest weapon takes a big bite out of a Silver Moblin.
- Do not rely on bombs. The game says a Moblin’s legs alone are “strong enough to resist the force of a bomb blast”, so a bomb will not knock one over.
- Watch for thrown Bokoblins. In a mixed camp, an unarmed Moblin may pick up a Bokoblin and throw it. Clear the Bokoblins first or fight from range.
- Use the weather. The damage files set lightning damage to 999,999 for every Moblin, so a lightning strike kills any Moblin outright.
What do Moblins drop and what are the parts for?
| Moblin | Drops |
|---|---|
| Moblin | Moblin Horn ×1; Moblin Fang ×1–2 |
| Blue Moblin | Horn ×1; Fang ×1–2 at 80%; Moblin Guts 70% |
| Black Moblin | Horn ×1; Fang ×3–4; Guts ×1 |
| Silver Moblin | Horn ×1; Fang ×3–4; Guts ×1; one gem (Topaz, Ruby, Sapphire 30% each, Diamond 10%); ×3–4 at Amber 10%, Opal 6%, Topaz/Ruby/Sapphire/Diamond 1% each |
| Golden Moblin (Master Mode) | As Silver, but the gem roll is 28% each and Diamond 16% |
| Stalmoblin | Fang ×2–4; Horn ×1 |
These are the game’s drop tables. “×1–2” means one or two rolls, and a percentage is the chance per roll. Weapons a Moblin carries are not part of these tables. The Silver Moblin’s 10% Diamond chance is the best of any camp monster in Normal Mode.
- Elixirs: the horn, fang and guts can all be cooked with critters into an elixir, as the item descriptions say; the guts are “too pungent for normal food preparation”. See all recipes.
- Armor upgrades: the Flamebreaker set takes 2 Moblin Horns per piece at one star, 4 Moblin Fangs at two stars and 3 Moblin Guts at three stars; the Soldier’s set needs 3 Moblin Guts per piece at two stars. See the Flamebreaker set and the upgrade materials.
- Moblin Mask: not a drop. The game describes it as Kilton’s handmade Moblin headgear; wearing it helps you blend in with Moblins.
Where do Moblins spawn?
| Moblin | Blue | Black | Stalmoblin | Total | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Placed in Normal Mode | 34 | 82 | 136 | 14 | 266 |
| Rank up with world level | 4 | 19 | 29 | — | 52 |
These are the game’s placement data. The data holds 285 Moblin records. Five are marked as Master Mode only; five more, four Black Moblins and a Silver Moblin on the Great Plateau, are marked for the One-Hit Obliterator trial of The Champions’ Ballad; and nine are a second record stored at exactly the same spot as another, so they are counted once. “Rank up” is the data’s own flag (LevelSensorMode): those Moblins move up through the colors as your world level rises, which is how Silver Moblins appear late in the game. The rest keep the color they are placed with, and none is placed as silver.
Sixteen of the Black Moblins are a Death Mountain version with the same 360 HP, around the Southern Mine, Gorko Tunnel and the Bridge of Eldin; two of them attack Yunobo on the bridge in the Vah Rudania quest. The 14 Stalmoblins are placed ones; the most Moblins overall are in the Hebra (34) and Akkala (29) tower regions.
