BotW Lizalfos: Every Rank, HP, Drops and Weaknesses
Every Lizalfos in Breath of the Wild, green to Golden, plus the Fire-Breath, Ice-Breath and Electric kinds and Stalizalfos: HP, drops, gems, weaknesses and spawns.
The game calls Lizalfos “quick-witted, lizard-like monsters” found all over Hyrule, a sly species that lurks underwater or uses camouflage “to launch ambushes”. Breath of the Wild has nine kinds: five color ranks (Golden only in Master Mode), three elemental Lizalfos and the skeletal Stalizalfos. This page gives each one’s HP and drops from the game’s own data, how to tell them apart, how to beat the elemental ones in one hit, and where they spawn. For the other monster families see the enemy overview; the Tears of the Kingdom version is on Lizalfos in Tears of the Kingdom.
How do you tell the Lizalfos ranks apart?
| Kind | HP | How to recognize it |
|---|---|---|
| Lizalfos (green) | 50 | Green scales |
| Blue Lizalfos | 120 | Blue scales, usually a stronger weapon |
| Black Lizalfos | 288 | Black scales, usually a strong weapon |
| Silver Lizalfos | 864 | White body with purple patterns |
| Golden Lizalfos | 1,296 | Gold body; Master Mode only |
| Fire-Breath Lizalfos | 160 | Red and black scales; breathes fire |
| Ice-Breath Lizalfos | 288 | Pale blue-grey scales; spits balls of ice |
| Electric Lizalfos | 288 | Yellow and black scales, a glowing horn |
| Stalizalfos | 1 | A skeleton; night only |
HP comes from the game’s parameter files, cross-checked against a second copy of the game data. The weapon notes and the Silver Lizalfos’s purple pattern are from the Hyrule Compendium. Note that the Ice-Breath Lizalfos has 288 HP here, not the 160 of the Fire-Breath kind.
The game describes the base kind as sly: it lurks underwater or blends into the ground to ambush, never sleeps, and eats meat and the occasional insect. Blue Lizalfos are tougher and “carry much stronger weapons”, and Black Lizalfos are “among the most dangerous Lizalfos”.
What are Silver and Golden Lizalfos?
The Silver Lizalfos is “the strongest Lizalfos of all”, shaped by Ganon’s magic, and “called ‘silver’ for their unique coloring and also to denote their rarity”. It has 864 HP and is the first rank with a gem table. The Golden Lizalfos (1,296 HP) appears only in Master Mode, the hard mode from the first DLC pack. According to the game, it is said to be a Silver Lizalfos that changed after being struck by lightning, which is why it has “such a high tolerance for electric attacks”.
How do you beat the elemental Lizalfos?
- Fire-Breath Lizalfos (160 HP): “exposure to cold will kill them instantly”, the game says. One Ice Arrow, or any other ice hit, kills it. They mainly live in volcanic areas, and the game adds that they have been sighted in Akkala too.
- Ice-Breath Lizalfos (288 HP): “exposure to fire will kill them instantly”. One Fire Arrow is enough, so its higher HP does not matter. They live mainly on snowy mountains.
- Electric Lizalfos (288 HP): no element kills it outright. The game warns that it can “emit strong electrical currents” from its body, and that an arrow striking its charged horn makes the charge “discharge and arc to nearby areas”. Keep your distance and do not shoot the horn while you are close.
What are Stalizalfos?
Stalizalfos are the remains of Lizalfos and come out only at night. The game says their bodies “are much more fragile, and a single solid hit can reduce them to pieces”, but “if a skull remains intact, they will pull themselves back up and continue to fight”. They have 1 HP: break the body, then the skull. The game adds that they sometimes grab the wrong skull.
What do Lizalfos drop?
| Monster | Drops |
|---|---|
| Lizalfos | Lizalfos Horn ×1; Lizalfos Talon 50% (1–2 rolls) |
| Blue Lizalfos | Horn ×1; Talon ×2; Lizalfos Tail 50% |
| Black Lizalfos | Horn ×1; Talon ×2; Tail ×1 |
| Silver Lizalfos | Horn ×1; Talon ×2; Tail ×1; gems ×1–3 (Topaz, Ruby, Sapphire 33% each, Diamond 1%); ×2 at Amber 15%, Opal 8%, Topaz/Ruby/Sapphire 2% each, Diamond 1% |
| Golden Lizalfos (Master Mode) | As Silver, but the first gem table is 32% each and Diamond 4% |
| Fire-Breath Lizalfos | Horn ×1; Talon ×2; Red Lizalfos Tail ×1 |
| Ice-Breath Lizalfos | Horn ×1; Talon ×2; Icy Lizalfos Tail ×1 |
| Electric Lizalfos | Horn ×1; Talon ×2; Yellow Lizalfos Tail ×1 |
| Stalizalfos (night only) | Talon ×1–2; Horn ×1 |
These are the game’s drop tables. “×1–2” means one or two rolls; a percentage is the chance per roll, and the rest of the time that roll gives nothing. Every kind drops the same Lizalfos Horn: unlike in Tears of the Kingdom, there are no colored horns. The elemental kinds always drop their tail, and they are the only source of Red, Icy and Yellow Lizalfos Tails.
- Elixirs: every Lizalfos part goes into elixirs with critters. The game says the horn is “too hard to use for cooking” and the elemental tails are unfit for dishes, so treat them as elixir material; see all recipes.
- Armor upgrades: the Zora set needs Lizalfos parts at every star, with 10 Lizalfos Tails and 15 Opals per piece at four stars. The four-star upgrades of the Snowquill set take 10 Red Lizalfos Tails per piece and the Rubber set 10 Yellow Lizalfos Tails; the Desert Voe set uses Icy Lizalfos Tails. See the Zora set, Snowquill, Rubber, Desert Voe and the upgrade materials table.
- Lizalfos Mask: not a drop. The game calls it “Kilton’s handmade Lizalfos headgear” that helps you “blend in with Lizalfos”; Kilton’s shop is described on the Dark set page.
Where do Lizalfos spawn?
| Kind | Normal Mode placements |
|---|---|
| Lizalfos (green) | 211 |
| Blue Lizalfos | 186 |
| Black Lizalfos | 134 |
| Silver Lizalfos | 1 |
| Fire-Breath Lizalfos | 63 |
| Ice-Breath Lizalfos | 39 |
| Electric Lizalfos | 28 |
| Stalizalfos | 26 |
| Total | 688 |
These are the game’s placement data for the main map. Master Mode adds another 50 Lizalfos placements, which are left out here. 95 of the green, blue and black placements carry the data’s flag for growing stronger as your world level rises, so you meet more Black and Silver Lizalfos later in the game; only one placement is a Silver Lizalfos from the start.
The map shows the three elemental kinds, the ones people look for when farming tails. Lizalfos placed close together (within 30 map units) share one marker, so it has 103 markers for 130 placements. Fire-Breath Lizalfos crowd the Eldin Tower region around Death Mountain, with a few in Akkala as the game says; Ice-Breath ones are in the Gerudo Highlands and Hebra; Electric ones are mostly in the Wasteland Tower region of the Gerudo Desert, the game’s “desert climates”.
