Zelda’s album holds twelve old photos, and each one marks a place where a memory is waiting. This page lists all of them in album order with the memory they unlock, a nearby shrine, coordinates and what the spot looks like, then the 13th location and the rewards.

“Photo” is the album order and “Memory” is the number the game gives the memory in its list. Coordinates are the memory trigger points from the game’s placement data, in the same X, Y, Z format as the shrine map.

How do you recognize each photo spot?

Every spot has a faint glowing circle on the ground. Stand in it and the recall starts. These are the details to look for:

PhotoWhat to look for
1Directly south of Hyrule Castle: a stone platform in the middle of a pool.
2The west bank of Lake Kolomo, on a small raised ridge, looking east across the water.
3Right in front of Tena Ko’sah Shrine, on the path up to its entrance.
4At the edge of the pond in the middle of the bazaar, lined up so you see the top-heavy rock with the green banner.
5A flat hilltop west of Goronbi Lake with a ring of small stones, overlooking Woodland Tower.
6Northwest of Hyrule Castle, across the moat: a big tree beside a U-shaped pool. The circle is in front of the tree.
7The east bank of the Hylia River: a lone tree on a small hill with two little statues under it. Face the Bridge of Hylia.
8The outdoor bridge between Princess Zelda’s Room and Princess Zelda’s Study.
9Facing the goddess statue at the Spring of Power, which has a tree on each side.
10Next to the horse statue in the horseshoe-shaped park.
11The road in front of the large arch at the end of Lanayru Promenade. A Moblin stands guard.
12A forest path next to a large rock, across the river from Wetland Stable.

Photo 4 has one disagreement: some guides place the circle on the east side of the pond, others on the side nearest the road. Walk the edge of the water until the circle appears.

How does the Captured Memories quest work?

  1. Finish Locked Mementos. Purah restores the Camera and the album at Hateno Ancient Tech Lab; the twelve photos are already in it.
  2. Talk to Impa in Kakariko Village. She starts Captured Memories and asks you to find at least one of the places.
  3. Find one spot and report back. Impa gives you the Champion’s Tunic for your first memory.
  4. Find the other eleven. Visit them in any order. Once you have finished the main quest Find the Fairy Fountain, the painter Pikango at the stables can give hints about the photos.
  5. Visit the place in Impa’s painting. After all twelve, Impa points you to the painting on her wall. That is the 13th memory; it does not appear before then.

Where is the 13th memory?

The painting shows Ash Swamp full of shut-down Guardians. The circle is between the two southernmost ponds, beside a leaning Guardian.

What do you get for the memories?

WhenWhat you get
First memory, reported to ImpaChampion’s Tunic
All 12 photosImpa reveals the 13th location
13th memoryThe quest ends
Captured Memories finished before the final battleAn extra scene after the credits

The extra scene is added to the normal ending rather than replacing it. The other five of the game’s 18 memories do not come from photos: four play as you free the Divine Beasts (see the Divine Beasts order), and the 18th, The Master Sword, is recovered in Korok Forest (see the Master Sword guide). The Champions’ Ballad DLC adds more memories on top of these.

FAQ

How many Captured Memories are there in Breath of the Wild?
Thirteen: 12 photos in Zelda's album and a final location shown in the painting on the wall of Impa's house. The game has 18 memories in total; the other five come from the Divine Beasts and Korok Forest.
When do you get the Champion's Tunic?
After you find any one memory and report back to Impa in Kakariko Village. You do not need all twelve for it.
How do I unlock the 13th memory?
Find all 12 photo locations and talk to Impa. She points you to the painting on her wall, which shows Ash Swamp near Fort Hateno. Visiting it earlier does nothing.
Do the memories change the ending?
They do not unlock a separate ending. Finishing Captured Memories adds one extra scene after the credits once Calamity Ganon is defeated.
