What should you bring?
No Sheikah Slate ability or elemental resistance is needed — this trial is decided purely by your combat kit. Bring two or three melee weapons in good condition: the Guardian Scout III has 1500 HP, and a single blade’s durability rarely lasts the whole fight. Add a bow with arrows and the paraglider for the updraft strategy, a shield if you want the parry option, and recovery food as backup. Ice and electric weapons help as well, since they freeze and stun the Scout.

Solution
The exit opens when you defeat the Guardian. Bring weapons and recovery food; this is a combat encounter without a rune puzzle.
| Preparation | What to expect |
|---|---|
| Opponent | Guardian Scout III |
| Health | 1500 HP |
| Its equipment | Ancient Battle Axe+ and Guardian Spear+ |
| For the strategy below | Melee weapons, bow, arrows, paraglider; shield for the parry option |
| Optional help | Ice attacks freeze it; electric attacks stun it |
| Rune requirements | No Magnesis, Stasis, Cryonis or bomb puzzle |
The combat actions below are responses to its moves. Attacks can repeat, and finishing the fight early may skip later patterns.
1. Enter the Arena
Enter the center of the arena. The Guardian Scout rises from the floor and the encounter begins.
2. Defeat the Guardian Scout
Dodge before counterattacking. Watch its axe and spear, then side-hop or backflip out of the attack. A well-timed dodge opens a Flurry Rush; keep moving if it fires small laser shots.
Put a stone pillar in the path of its spinning charge. When it crashes through the pillar and staggers, close in and attack.
Glide over the circular laser sweep. When it burns the floor around itself, jump into the updraft and open the paraglider. Draw your bow in the air and aim at its eye.
Keep moving during the powerful laser attack. When the weakened Scout stops to charge, run to avoid the beam, or parry with your shield if you are comfortable with the timing. Continue fighting until it falls.
3. Open the Chest and Claim the Spirit Orb
Go through the rear gate and open the chest. The gate opens after the fight; the chest beyond it contains the Frostspear.
Approach the monk to finish. Interact with the altar to receive the Spirit Orb.
Chests
| Chest | Contents | How to get it |
|---|---|---|
| 1, beyond the rear gate | Frostspear | Defeat the Guardian Scout, pass through the opened gate, and open the chest before the monk |
What do people miss here?
- The fight starts on its own: the moment you approach the center of the arena, the Guardian Scout rises from its pit, so finish any weapon swaps at the entrance before stepping in.
- Pick up the gear the Scout drops before you leave. Its weapons are only ’+’ tier, but around the middle of the game they are genuinely useful — the axe especially.
- The stone chest behind the rear gate is the classic miss here: many players beeline to the monk and leave. The Frostspear inside is the increased-durability version, so open the chest first, then claim your Spirit Orb.
- Endgame players should temper expectations: the drops from this Modest test top out at ’+’ level and are weaker than what the Major Tests of Strength offer, so don’t treat this shrine as a farming spot.
