Where is Katah Chuki Shrine?

From Quarry Ruins, head toward its southeastern edge and look for the rocky nook beside the wall bordering West Castle Town. The shrine sits in this recess. There is no shrine quest prerequisite; use the BotW shrine checklist to place it in your route.

What should you bring?

No rune abilities are required here — Magnesis, Stasis, Cryonis, and Remote Bomb are never needed, so just bring a melee weapon, a bow with arrows, and the paraglider. The Guardian Scout II has 375 HP, so enter with at least one melee weapon with enough durability to last the fight, or bring a spare instead of a nearly-broken one. Ice attacks can freeze it and electric attacks can stun it, but neither is a prerequisite. Since this is only a Minor Test, the Scout is fairly weak, and steady hit-and-move play will finish the fight without heavy preparation.

Solution: how do you beat the Guardian Scout?

Bring a melee weapon, bow and arrows, and paraglider for this route. No Magnesis, Stasis, Cryonis, or Remote Bomb step is required. Ice can freeze the Scout and electricity can stun it, but neither is a prerequisite.

Follow the attack cues below as they occur; these are responses to its moves, not switches you must activate in order.

1. Defeat the Guardian Scout

Enter the central arena. Approach the middle to make the Scout rise from its pit.

Circle away from the spear point. When it stops to prepare a thrust, move around its attack line and strike from the side.

Use a pillar against the spinning charge. When it jumps back and spins its weapon, put a standing pillar between you and the Scout; attack while it is stopped after the collision.

Ride the rotating laser’s updraft. If it sweeps the floor with a beam, open the paraglider in the rising air, draw your bow, and aim at its eye; follow up after landing.

Finish it during the final charge-up. If it begins charging its powerful low-health laser, concentrate your attacks to try to defeat it before it fires.

2. Claim the reward

Open the chest beyond the gate. Once the Scout is defeated, enter the monk’s room and take the Royal Halberd.

Speak to the monk. Interact at the altar to receive the Spirit Orb and complete the shrine.

What do people miss here?

• The shrine sits near Hyrule Castle, and Guardians swarm the surrounding area as you search — players glued to hunting the rocky nook can walk straight into a laser, so scan for them before committing to the approach.
• Do not let the ‘Test of Strength’ label scare you off: this is only the Minor tier and the Guardian Scout inside is fairly weak, so even a freshly started file can clear it.
• Timing matters for the loot: early in the game this is a great stop for good starting gear, including the Royal Halberd in the chest.
• Conversely, if you only stumble onto this shrine while already preparing to assault Ganon, little here will be useful to you — do not detour for the rewards alone.
