Kam Urog Shrine: Cursed Statue, Solution and Chests (BotW)
Reveal Kam Urog Shrine through The Cursed Statue quest, ride the rotating platforms through Trial of Passage, and collect the spear and Opal chests.
Where is Kam Urog Shrine?
Head to Fort Hateno, then look for the stone-statue clearing to its northeast. The shrine starts underground. For a guided approach, speak to Calip in the cabin east of the fort, address him as doctor to hear his clue, and follow him to his daytime research site. If he is absent, sleep in his bed until morning.
To finish The Cursed Statue, return to the statues at night and shoot the purple-glowing eyes with an arrow. The shrine rises from the ground. Place this stop on your route with the BotW shrine location table.

What should you bring?
Pack a bow and at least one arrow, and plan the visit for after dark: the shrine stays buried until you shoot the purple-glowing eye of the cursed statue, and those eyes only appear at night. Keep the paraglider handy, as the detour to the wall-recess chest is a glide. That is genuinely all the preparation needed — the trial has no enemies, so combat weapons, armor and resistances are all irrelevant. Stasis is an optional comfort (freezing the central gear briefly holds its connected platforms), and the whole climb can be finished without using any Sheikah Slate rune.

How do you solve Trial of Passage?
Bring a bow and arrows for the entrance and use the paraglider for the chest detour. Stasis is optional: freezing a gear pauses its connected platforms. The route below needs no Magnesis, Remote Bombs or Cryonis.
1. Enter the rotating drum
Enter the rotating drum. Descend the ramp and move toward the middle, keeping clear of the spiked balls.
2. Ride the long beam upward
Ride the long beam upward. Let it lift you, then walk along it once its slope becomes manageable and jump onto the central gear.
3. Board the chest platform and wait for the stairs
Board the chest platform. Wait for it to pass near horizontal, jump across and adjust your footing as it turns. Open the upright chest for the Soldier’s Spear.
Stay with the turning platform. Keep moving around its surface until the stairway on its reverse side faces upward.
4. Detour for the Opal and rejoin the platform
Detour for the Opal. Before taking the stairs to the exit, jump and glide into the wall recess below the exit, then open its chest.
Rejoin the chest platform. From the recess, watch for the same platform to return. Jump aboard and move with it until its stairs face upward again.
5. Cross the aligned stairs to the exit
Cross the aligned stairs. When they connect with the upper stairway, climb out, turn left and approach the monk for the Spirit Orb.
Where are the chests and what is inside?
| Chest | Contents | How to get it |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Soldier’s Spear | Jump from the central gear to the rotating chest platform; open it when you and the chest are upright. |
| 2 | Opal | Glide from the raised stair platform into the wall recess below the exit. Return on the rotating platform afterward. |
What do people miss here?
- There is no safety net inside the drum: one mistimed jump sends you back to the bottom of the spinning cylinder, and the entire climb has to be redone. The spiked iron balls sweeping through the chamber cause most of those drops, so let them pass instead of racing them.
- The central cog is the one spot that offers a break from the non-stop rotation — treat it as a rest stop where you can wait, watch the turning platforms and plan your next move instead of rushing.
- Never called Calip ‘doctor’, or forgot what he told you? The hint is not lost: the book An Ancient Text in his cabin lets you re-read his exact clue at any time.
- If Calip’s cabin is empty, he is simply at the shrine-quest site itself — head to the statue clearing to meet him there and pick the quest up instead of waiting around.
