Dunba Taag Shrine: Build and Release Walkthrough (All Chests)

Where is Dunba Taag Shrine?

The shrine is located within Tanagar Canyon, right along the border with the Tabantha Frontier, and it is grouped with the Hebra region’s shrines in regional listings. Nothing guards the entrance: there is no shrine quest and no unlock condition, so you can walk straight in whenever you reach the canyon.

What should you bring?

You need the Stasis and Bomb runes: Stasis drives every puzzle here, and the Remote Bomb is required to destroy the bombable cubes hiding the first chest’s Stake. Bring any melee weapon you don’t mind swinging a lot, since charging barrels takes repeated hits. No special armor, resistances, or items are needed for this shrine.

How do you solve Dunba Taag Shrine?

This trial is a Stasis masterclass: freeze one moving part in place, then charge the rest — barrels and boulders — with hits until they fly exactly where you need them. As Gamer Guides puts it, ‘it’s all about using Stasis in this shrine!’

1. Freeze the gear to let the boulder cross

Ride the elevator platform in and look across the first chamber: opposite the elevator, a boulder continuously rolls down a ramp toward a platform connected to a large spinning gear, but the platform never stays level long enough for the boulder to cross — it falls into the pit below.

Use Stasis on the spinning gear at the moment its platform lines up level with the ramp — this freezes both the gear and the platform in place so they hold still.

Step back and wait: the next boulder rolls down the ramp, crosses the frozen platform, and presses the Stake Switch on the other side. The portcullis on the side of the room opens — head through it into the second chamber.

In chamber two, take stock: several stone barrels sit in a corner, a lower-leveled area holds a large boulder, and to your left as you walk in a portcullis seals a chest behind bombable cubes stacked against a wall of stone blocks.

2. Open the two chests in chamber two

For the first chest, detonate a Remote Bomb on the bombable cubes beside the gated chest — destroying them reveals another Stake hidden behind.

Carry one of the barrels to the edge of the platform opposite the wall of stone blocks, across the pit, and set it down so it points in a straight line at the middle of the target.

Stasis the barrel, then hit it repeatedly until the force arrow glows red and aims dead-center at the Stake — then let it fly. A weak charge falls short, and you may need a couple of tries; don’t worry, there are plenty of barrels to spare.

When the barrel strikes home, the portcullis rises: go in and open the chest for a Falcon Bow.

Next, head to the lower-leveled area of the chamber, where a large boulder sits slightly out of line with the ramp that leads to a pressure plate (a Floor Switch).

Roll the boulder over slightly so it sits in line with the ramp, then Stasis it and land only a few hits — gentle force — so it is nudged forward, rolls down, and settles onto the pressure plate.

The gate up ahead opens: claim the Great Thunderblade from the chest, then climb the ladder to exit the lower level.

3. Tip the stone slab to reach the Monk

To finish the shrine, cross to the far right side of the room, where another pile of barrels in the corner faces a large stone slab.

Set a barrel at the platform edge opposite the middle of the slab, then Stasis it and keep hitting until the arrow turns red — with enough force, the barrel launches, tips the slab over onto the switch below, and the portcullis to the Monk’s Pedestal opens.

Approach the monk and speak with Dunba Taag: he commends your resourcefulness in overcoming the trial, bestows your Spirit Orb, wishes you well, and fades away.

What do people miss here?

• Both treasure gates are optional — the portcullis to the monk only needs the stone-slab launch, so you can clear the trial and still leave the Falcon Bow and Great Thunderblade behind. Do the left-hand and lower-level puzzles before seeing Dunba Taag.
• A soft launch falls short: if the barrel drops before reaching the target, you didn’t hit it enough. Keep swinging until the arrow is red and pointing at the middle of the target — you may need a couple of tries, and there are plenty of barrels.
• The bombable cubes beside the Falcon Bow gate are easy to walk past. Skip the bomb and the Stake stays hidden — no barrel shot will ever open that portcullis.
• On the lower level, the boulder needs a nudge, not a launch — a few gentle Stasis hits push it onto the pressure plate, and remember to roll it in line with the ramp first.
• The lower level itself is what players miss: look for the sunken area with the boulder, and remember the ladder is your way back up after looting the chest.
