Tears of the Kingdom Barbarian Set: Locations, Set Bonus, Upgrades

The Barbarian set is the set most players wear for fighting in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom: every piece has the Attack Up effect, and the set bonus makes charge attacks cheaper. All three pieces are in cave chests, so you can collect them without buying anything. For the other sets see all armor; for the materials of every set see armor upgrade materials.

Where do you find each piece of the Barbarian set?

All three are chests (Game8; positions from the game’s placement data):

• Barbarian Helm — chest in Robred Dropoff Cave, East Necluda.
• Barbarian Armor — chest in Crenel Hills Cave.
• Barbarian Leg Wraps — chest in Walnot Mountain Cave, East Necluda. The way is blocked by ice: melt it (a fire fruit or a fire weapon), then open the chest.

What does the Barbarian set bonus do?

Zelda Dungeon describes it as “Charge Attacks consume less stamina”. On its own, each piece gives Attack Up; the bonus comes on top once all three are at two stars.

How much defense does each piece give?

The set starts at 3 defense per piece and reaches 20 at four stars, the same curve as most traveling sets. You wear it for attack, not defense.

What does it take to upgrade the Barbarian set?

Upgrades are done at a Great Fairy Fountain, one star at a time, for rupees plus materials. The table is per piece; the whole set needs three times as much.

From the second star the set needs Lynel horns, and White-Maned Lynel horns for the last star. The Lynel locations page lists where each Lynel stands. Mighty Thistle, Razorshroom and Razorclaw Crab are the same ingredients that go into mighty (attack up) dishes.

When should you wear the Barbarian set?

Wear it for fights: Lynels, Gleeoks, monster camps and the temple bosses. The Attack Up effect helps every hit, and the set bonus lets you keep up charge attacks with two-handed weapons for longer. Switch to a resistance set when the place calls for one (cold, heat, lightning); the Barbarian set gives no protection from the environment.
