BotW Royal Guard Set: EX Royal Guard Rumors in Hyrule Castle

The Royal Guard set is the uniform of the guards who protected Hyrule’s royal family, hidden inside Hyrule Castle by the Expansion Pass’s second pack, The Champions’ Ballad. You get it from the side quest EX Royal Guard Rumors. Getting around the castle is covered in the Hyrule Castle walkthrough; other DLC content is in the DLC guide; every set is in all armor.

Where is the Royal Guard set?

The quest starts at Riverside Stable, where a copy of Super Rumor Mill EX: Volume 4 lies inside. It says:

They say a former maid spoke of treasure near the Dining Hall, in the Guards’ Chamber, and on the second floor.

All three chests are inside Hyrule Castle:

• Royal Guard Boots — the storage space in the Guards’ Chamber.
• Royal Guard Uniform — a hidden room near the Dining Hall, behind a cracked wall; blow it open with a Remote Bomb. The table below lists this chest under Second Gatehouse, the nearest place name on the map.
• Royal Guard Cap — the second floor of the Sanctum, in front of a knight statue. Do not walk onto the Sanctum’s main floor, which starts the final battle.

What does the set bonus do?

Charge Atk. Stamina Up: charge attacks use less stamina, the same bonus as the Barbarian set. The pieces have no effect on their own. The set also has two hidden bonuses that the game does not list: Climbing Jump Stamina Up and Swim Dash Stamina Up, as on the Climbing set and the Zora set.

How much defense does it give?

4 per piece, 12 for the set. It cannot be upgraded or dyed. If you sell it, Granté in Tarrey Town sells it again once you have found it.

Is the Royal Guard set worth wearing?

It is a light set that carries three useful bonuses at once, good for long climbs and swims. For real fights the Barbarian set gives the same charge bonus with Attack Up and far more defense once upgraded.
